ok I know this sounds nuts but here goes, im really fancying some apmex rounds or baird haven't decided which yet / and haven't decided 1/4 1/2 1 oz I think im dismissing the 1/4
ill not go over the vat thing again as its a hard pill to swallow , putting e bay to one side for a moment
sarnia silver 14.25 plus vat plus 2 shipping the 1/4 start from 3.75 plus vat plus 2 shipping , shipping is 2 up to 39.99 in value
ive seen a private forum for private sales but not seen apmex rounds on there , keep doing a search for bullion dealers Guernsey ,
the Estonia dealers either charge silly money for shipping or only want to sell you 20 in a tube ( but again Estonia dealers are more maples, phils, etc) so in short im struggling to find a low price with shipping on apmex rounds if you take the shipping into account and leave out the vat
a sarnia silver apmex round is 16.25 and I think spots at 11.60 that's a big premium isn't it or would you bite the bullet and just get em
regards

sorry forgot to add sarnia silver I believe you can purchase 1 coin only

Sorry can't help you on the shipping part! I sometimes do pay the premium for rounds that I really like. I usually only get 1 of each just cause I think they are pretty and don't plan on selling them. I wouldn't buy a whole bunch of something with a high premium unless you are hoping they become collectable in a few years. I've got my generic stuff for selling later, and my collectable stuff that I do not plan on selling unless I must! Just bought a graded 1989 proof silver eagle because that is my birth year! :D

Your post suggests you're in Guernsey. If that's the case, you're in a bad situation---sparsely populated small island place, problematic shipping charges, very limited (if any) local PM buying possibilities, killer UK VAT on bullion, etc. You may end up doing best to make your purchases through internet forums and if that's the case you'll have to pick what you buy out of what's being offered. Scouring estate sales, rummage sales and those kinds of things for old sterling silver may a productive idea if you're on Guernsey.

On your question about the price of that APMEX round... A premium that's around 40% of spot for an APMEX round is outrageous. I wouldn't pay that if it was the only silver in the world that I could buy. The premium APMEX charges in the US is around 15% and even that's still a slap in the face for a generic silver round. Check out http://www.providentmetals.com -- they're selling their rounds for about a 4% premium right now, but you're still looking at VAT and killer shipping charges to Guernsey (if that's where you are) Good luck with your quandary.

Is there a reason your looking at the fractional's?

Always a big mark up on them, the smaller the weight, the bigger the mark up

Try to go for at least 1oz

no particular reason, sometimes I can find that the 1/4 1/2 weights are exactly 25& and 50% cost of the full 1 oz this isn't always the case ithink ive just seen where a 1/4 oz Lydian round at sarnia silver was 3.75 and a 1/2 oz apmex was 7.99 they had a 1/2 oz at 8.08 as well admitidley the full 1 oz was 14.25 is the Lydian any lesser quality,, maybe but in my book 2 x 1/4 oz = 7.50 and the 1/2 oz apmex is 7.99 unless theres slightly more silver in 1/2 oz rather than 2 x 1/4 oz
in the uk theres a bullion dealer that charges more or less 50% less for a gold half sov than a full one , normally half costs much more
the reason it may interest me as a stacker is only this

if I wasn't able to afford much say on this example I can get 4 Lydian 1/4 rounds for 15 where as I would ionly get 2 1/2 oz apmex costing either 15.99 or 16.16 one way I get 4 to stack the other I get 2 to stack

buffalo rounds were an excellent buy
are buffalo rounds a Scottsdale product

Not exclusively, APMEX and a few private mints such as Goldenstate Mint,Silvertowne, NTR etc also mint them

I think ive deafinatley decided after some carefull thought not going to buy anything under 1 oz and should it be gold nothing under 10 grams or a full sovereign I guess the 1/4 1/2 stuff is ok but I think id like to go with the thought of stacking 100-200 oz in a lesser way not as fractional coins, the stacks can get out of hand I guess , I do have access to a safe but not wanting a stack that gets out of hand with lots of small coins/bullion

if im only able to afford a little bit on any given month then maybe I did say maybe 1/2 oz minimum // the 1/2 oz rounds don't look a bad size ,,,, ( 1/10th 1/20th 1/4 ) no not for me im afraid
I received 2x 5 gram Johnson matthey gold recently my goodness your sim card is bigger in your mobile phone and all for just 276
