Woolworths Possum Magic Coloured $2 Coins

Similar to last year's Olympic coins, it looks like Woolworths are releasing more coloured $2 in change for a limited time plus selling a pack.

The stores I've been to so far are doing the 2 per customer thing again.

possum magic money
when they will come out with carded koala magic money ?

My guess is not much better than the paralympics series

Main reason - they're being sold in an UNC set at not much about face value in unlimited mintage. So it's too easy for every collector & grandma to get their hands on one in pristine condition.

I don't see any investment value in it, but hey, $15 for $10 worth of UNC coins isn't too bad!

They Olympic sets were selling for about $25 down the market, and selling quite well, I think they are all gone. I would imagine the possums would do about the same. I know one stall holder who already had them for sale at $25 because he figures some people are too lazy to go to Woolworths to pick them up.

I haven't seen a lot of adverts for them, and there isn't much in the store promoting them either. There will always be people wanting to stockpile them for future gains though and I can't imagine them ever being really rare.

I can't really imagine them being rare. I think they are trying to capitalise on the popularity of $2 colour coins in a way that makes them more money which unfortunately for the collector means they will be worth less, no $2 coin will do better than the purple coronation but I think the plus with these is the kids will want them and they will see the collection of a friend and want them too so parents will buy them for the kids... Only time will tell but if they fetch more than $6 each down the track I will be surprised...

The number of coloured $2 coins is going up every year, I am already sick of them, the novelty will wear off soon enough but they will milk it for as long as possible.

I bought five sets and will be passing them on to members of the coin club who have somehow not managed to get a set but other than putting one set aside, I don't think I will be speculating on them.

The pre-packaged sets are no fun.

Overcoming the embarrassment of admitting you're a fully grown adult who collects coins and asking the checkout lady if you can have one in your change takes a little of the dullness out of life.

haha yep

Whilst the 1c coin is legal tender it is mint set only so your not likely to see on in circulation unlike the $2 coin. The same applies to the $1 coins in the set, they will be where the money is

Even my wife likes the $1 coins.

I have ordered some capsules for them, they are already discolouring around the rims, not sure what can be done about that but it looks a lot more pronounced than coins usually are that are just minted.

In my humble opinion, $1. coins are the most popular at this time.

Especially in rolls.

They have out-performed every $2. roll ( in a 'current value Vs. face value' sense ).

Certain $1. rolls have performed very well.

Eg. 2016 Change-Over, due to low mintage.
( lucky I have 50 complete sets of the 2016 rolls. Better performing than any precious metals I dealt with ..... )

After searching the ebay listings for a week or so, it seems that Week 2 Possums are the scarce ones.

Plenty of listings for Week 1 & 3 .... but not Week 2.

On this, I noted one ebay seller last night, who had two sets of the three weeks issues in Armaguard rolls. All H&T.

I secured the two sets using the 10% discount ( expire midnight last night ).

Average per roll cost me $153. Including postage.

I think complete $2. sets in rolls of the same wrapper, and as H&T might be worth the outlay.

Unless a recognised 'scarcity', around $10. over face value ( and that's if you are lucky to have a buyer looking for that item ).

Over-supply on ebay & dumbtree.
