Will Gold beep at the airport

between AUS and NZ sovereigns don't beep nuggets don't beep 9ct and 18ct doesn't beep. sterling and 999 do not beep. neither do large sapphires, diamonds, glass chips and some forms of stainless steel.

Always check the laws and ask at the airport. Some things need to be declared.
It's also important where you're going. Some countries simply "don't allow" massive transits of gold. I've heard lots of stories of "confiscated" (I say literally: STOLEN) gold by airport security personnel.

Be extremely careful and find out how much gold you can carry, whether they will tax you or how this works... It's not just your country's laws that are important. Your destination's laws might be worse, even!

Some say gold doesn't beep. But what if...
... something else beeps and the find it?
... what if it's illegal in your destination country to "bring in X amount of gold"? (if undeclared, they can take it from you)...
... some Eastern European countries simply don't allow X amount of gold to be brought in, unless you pay heavy taxes for them and if you don't declare them, they will "confiscate" (STEAL) and if the amount is "too large", then you might be paying a visit to jail.

Don't risk, don't joke, don't be naive.

Read the laws, find out at the airport, embassy, wherever possible: how much gold can you carry, would it be taxed, do you have to declare it (I think you must)?
 
Anyone had any issues with security staff ever when just flying domestically? Ie. taking some gold or silver bars to a dealer in another city?

This thread has a better discussion on this topic. Bottom line. No. Larger silver bars through the scanner will probably invite a check so be prepared to unwrap if necessary. If uncomfortable to do so in public just say so.
 
Here is the scenario to worry about !
You want to play safe and take your bars out of your hand luggage to place in a tray with say your iPad or laptop ( as everyone does ).
It goes into the X-Ray machine but the person in front of you gets stopped for a frisk search.
Your line is stopped but not the one adjacent so several passengers walk through before you.
You then get stopped at random.
Another delay and everyone is helping themselves to the contents of the trays.
Once you get to your tray(s) the bars have gone - then what ?
 
Wrap them up in toilet paper or something like a handkerchief, then place in tray. From my experience no one ever wants to handle something that is damp hehe
 
International flights into Las Vegas don't beep, they go ding, ding, ding, ding, and strobe lights over your head with laser pointers marking the spot. Secuirity rushes you and the other slower guards yell we have a winner, as it is being confiscated.
 
Just get a custom gold plates bezel put a 1kg gold coin in it and put it in the tub when you got through the scanner, if they say anything then just say "its ma' neck piece B!$&H"

Also a couple 2oz earrings won't hurt
 
How often do you see that "something else beeps" and they "give you the massage".

Don't do anything that might get you in trouble. Better declare it and respect the applicable laws.

Anything could set the machine off and amid beeps they will find it on you and you'll have a lot of explaining to do. In some countries it's illegal to transport "certain amounts of gold" undeclared. And, if declared, you are likely to pay "fees, taxes".
