Why do women "like" Krugerrands?

I've been bumping into videos (including several interviews with Jim Rogers), in which the ladies (e.g. reporters) mention rejoicingly that they have a Krugerrands.
There were several videos, including stackers' videos on YouTube with ladies praising their Krugerrands.

Women seem to like Krugerrands :lol:

Or... is this the only type of bullion gold coin they know of? :P

Or, are they just "good buyers" for a coin that would otherwise be rather hard to sell? :lol:

Or, is Mr.Kruger so irresistibly attractive that women instinctively flock to buy the coins?
 
They are one the most well known gold coins in the world the other being the gold sovereign. You go anywhere in the world and you can sell them no problems. They Krugerrands are not difficult to sell in the UK everyone knows what they are, more so than the UKs 1ozer the Britannia gold coin.

Forgive me mate, but aren't Maple Leaves and Golden Eagles also part of the "most well-known club"? :)
 
I had never heard of Maples or Golden Eagles before I started stacking.

But most, if not all, of my English relatives had sovereigns and half sovereigns tucked away.

My Greek in-laws insisted in being paid in sovereigns because they didn't trust the Drachma and used to take them down the bank to exchange them when they needed spending money. They still have a small stack.

Krugerands were well known because they were illegal to own due to the boycott on South Africa over the apartheid era. Any coin that is illegal has to be memorable. Never seen one in real life though.

Other than those two I don't think many non-stackers would be able to name a gold coin.

They are to us stackers/collectors, but no one outside the US or Canada would have clue what they are. In the UK they would think one is a bird the other a tree leaf whereas Krugers are well known here and the world over.

I think it's just a high profile thing. I remember when I was younger hearing about how Onasis had all these survival caches all over the wield including piles of Krugernds. I thought that war the coolest thing I'd ever heard. Fixed in my head was the idea that the wealthy had pIles of these things hanging around in safes as a way of paying bribes or getting away when things turned.

No, outside of North America and the modern coin collecting world, I wouldn't think so. They wouldn't be high profile coins like the sovereign or the Kruggerand, which are world renowned; easily bought and easily sold... Of course, the knock-on effect to that is they (especially the Sovereign) are among the most counterfeited gold coins. Very few people don't know what a sovereign looks like, and plenty of women would have had them in jewellry over the years. So the history of that coin alone ensures it's popularity.
 
My sister likes the colour of krugarrands. she doesnt collect or stack she just buys Sovs and Krugarrands and wears them all the time just as my mother did before she got too old ,now my sister looks after my mums stash as well :(

Sovs number 1 best known gold coin in the world because they have always been made into jewellery.
Krugs number 2 best known gold coin in the world because they were once illegal to trade.

there weren't internet back then, so Kruger was popularly marketed, women loves to hear that name, it means only gold.
 
Yet the sales figures of Gold Maples (as ounces) is quite higher than those of Krugerrands.
And the Gold Eagles & Buffalo's sale story is similar.

The situation has changed relative to 197x 198x.

The Krugerrand annual average over 1974-1984 was 3,5 Moz, much higher than anything that existed then.

Over 2007-2013 the Krugerrand average was 580 Koz
The Gold Philharmoniker was 646 Koz
The Gold Maple was 848 Koz
The Gold Eagle+Buffalo was 1088 Koz.

So maybe it all were old ladies?
The young ones apparently moved away.
 
But women dont look at sales figures Krugs are a nice gold "dangerous" colour and sovs are the boss

maple Eagle Men just need to know it!

What does that prove, as a global brand Sovereigns and Krugerrands are the best known gold coins in the world.

You could compare Coke=Krugerrand with Irn Bru=Maple, in Scotland. Coke is the best known global brand of soft drink but in Scotland it is outsold by Irn Bru.

Best known - best sold...differentiation?

I'm not saying that a best known coin implies a best sold coin. But what matters for a seller, how good it's known, or how good it's sold? You said it yourself then.
I think that sales figures answer the best sold question.
And those show that Krugerrands were single big king in a past, while today is a case of several smaller kings, with the Krugerrand King sitting on a smaller chair.
Does that mean that Krugerrands are shit?
Does that mean that people stopped buying them?
Does that mean that over some time nobody will buy them?
No, no and no.
My statement is about proportions/shares, not all or nothing and not about closer to margin values either.

And the sales figures I used are total / world production / sales figures so I'm not comparing local situations.
I also don't say that one should avoid what is less sold. Sometimes doing the opposite of most others is best. But that's another reason, not the one you gave.
Sales figures do prove something: what people chose more.

So why do you think Women like krugerrands?

If I was to asked a woman I know what gold coin do you like they will always say Sovereigns or Krugerrand, never gold Maples or gold Britannia,s definitely not Philharmonics or any other gold coin and would be totally uninterested in which coin sells most each year.

If I ask most men what gold jewellery they like the best most say none and many women cant understand this either. :)
 
Why do women like anything? THERE IS NO RATIONAL EXPLANATION!
