Just leafing thru GoogImages again in search of inspiration and found yet another stunning few Canadian coins which affirm what I've always thought about Oz coin designs...

They're DULL DULL DULL DULL BLOODY FRICKKIN' DULL ALL OVER - each and every year...

Jus' sayin'... ;)

EH?

I have two schools of thought on this.

There's regular coin series (Lunar, Kook, Koala etc) that have a "standard" design paradigm, and I think for recognisability, they should be that way - I have no drama with that.

On the other hand, I look at some of the coins being struck by mints around the world, and cannot help but be awestruck by some of the unique designs, uses of materials, and shapes that designers can concieve.

Without wanting to appear to promote anything - and with a caveat that this isn't a recommendation - one place I sometimes visit to be dazzled is http://firstcoincompany.com/

Coins in firstcoincompany.com are like a Ferrari type in the car market.
Cant equally compare to our bullions here... :P

only canadian elephant caught my attention - the rest are just milky silver
my personal choice is PM over RCM

Not sure you're being serious? Early kooks, S1 gold series, even some of the $200 gold coins
Your lurid coins look like lame comic book drawings :P

agree with finicky, think you have to take it on ayear by year basis, eg. '14 koala is plain ugly compared to previous ones

Maybe I'm being too harsh - and then again I thought that my fave Kook design is 2009... which suddenly reminded me of...

In other words a 1950's American diner or 1930's art deco...

I need to check it, but I believe there aren't many people who know how much g of gold or silver is worth. One of our newspapers here did a research, they visit many PM "pawn shops" and most of them were screwing around with folks...
