Who Believes Groceries Are getting Expensive??

400g Nestcafe Blend 43 is now on special at Coles for the same price as the 500g tin used to be.

Same size tin, 100g less

I just read that the Chilean volcano is estimated to have released more CO2 into the atmosphere than all human activity since WWII. If that is true, the the Carbon tax is a farce. So Gillard is going to crash our economy for nothing. Worst, most dishonest, corrupt, incompetent, disreputable specimen ever to hold public office in this country. History will not be kind to that piece of scum.

I know what you mean @_@

I noticed toilet paper has gone up a $1 over the last 3 months.
Calamari ring boxes shrunk 50g but still cost the same.

It's the little things that add up over time.

For the average consumer that's a 20% rise in the cost of what many would deem an essential.

For Coles that's a 20% increase to their bottom line

To the ABS when compiling the CPI that's 0% inflation

I have posted this before (in it's own thread) but it fits here as well

Not all doom and gloom though. I'm now debt free which means that I can now weather a 35% increase in my cost of living.

Yeah toilet paper getting quite expensive now, even when they do 'sales'.

I pretty much avoid Coles for most of my shopping now, Aldi is slightly cheaper ;)

And for everything else...there's internets :D

I was gonna bulk buy toilet paper from Staples using their coupons but decided my ass was more important than saving a few bucks :P

Last night I watched one of the Current Affairs shows (hangs head in shame....) where they compared a basket of groceries over 3 months and prices were down at both Coles and Wollies. I suspect though that the package size may have decreased in weight but I have nothing to back that up.

I buy very little from Coles or Woolies because I knew from day one that once they drive out competition then prices will shoot to the moon (already have).

While we are on this bandagon...went into the post office the other day to find that parcel post satchels have gone up AGAIN and when I grumbled about the price rise they told me it is going up yet again in a month! Price rises are already happening in shorter and shorter cycles, will be all too convenient to blame it all on the 'carbon tax.'

Luckily, the chilean volcano has emitted an insignificant amount of CO2 compared to that emitted by humans in the past decade, let alone since WW2.

maybe earthquake tax and volcano tax will follow the flood tax ... heck while we are at it why dont we introduce a solar eclipse tax (just to be consistent) ;)

Food prices changing what we eat - Oxfam

PEOPLE across the world are changing their eating habits because of the rising cost of food, according to a survey of 17 countries carried out by Oxfam.

More than half of those questioned, or 53 per cent, have modified their diet in the last two years, with 39 per cent of those who had changed what they eat blaming higher prices.

In Kenya, 76 per cent of respondents said they had changed their diet, with 79 per cent blaming the price of food.

The second highest percentage was in South Africa with 69 per cent.

But Western countries have also been affected with 55 per cent of people in the United States saying they were no longer eating the same foods as two years ago, and 31 per cent of Americans said it was because of higher prices.

Overall, cost was by far the biggest concern about food, with 66 per cent citing it as one of their main worries.

The opinion poll was conducted ahead of a meeting of agriculture ministers from G20 countries in France next week when the global food price crisis will be discussed.

Jeremy Hobbs, executive director of Oxfam, said: "Our diets are changing fast and for too many people it is a change for the worst.

"Huge numbers of people, especially in the world's poorest countries, are cutting back on the quantity or quality of the food they eat because of rising food prices."

A Guatemalan resident told Oxfam that poorer inhabitants could no longer afford sugar and a Kenyan national revealed that milk, margarine and jam were all now prohibitively expensive and that rice, beans and meat were heading the same way.

Lula da Silva, former president Brazil, told the charity: "It's not acceptable that a child ever goes without a daily glass of milk.

"It's not acceptable that a child has less than three meals a day; these are fundamental rights."

Oxfam called on G20 leaders to force food prices down by regulating commodity markets and reforming "flawed biofuels policies" which mean too much agricultural land is turned over to the production of biofuels.

The charity also called on G20 leaders to invest in small-scale producers in developing countries.

In total, 16,421 people were interviewed in April and May for the survey.

What you read was wrong. http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volcanowatch/2007/07_02_15.html
Try this instead.
Remember, prices have been rising rapidly for years and the carbon tax hasn't even been implemented yet. Don't want to pay carbon tax?, then use products and services and energy sources that are reduced or carbon free.

Another thing I noticed....

Some cereal boxes are still the same size on the outside, but on the inside there is more air-space. @_@
