Which would you buy: 1 Oz Roo, Panda, Philharmonic

I'm totally switched off to pandas. Never buy anything that has regular fakes, even if they are easy to spot. In the long run, premiums will be damaged.

My advice for bullion coin purchasing would be a 1oz Maple (purest in the world for gold coinage apparently) or a 1oz Philly (simply because its my favourite and has that sexy smooth edge)

Or hedge your bets and buy 2 half ozers :D

they did a couple of special issues in 2007/8 that were 99.999% but they would have cost more than the bullion ones, they're just 99.99% same as perth mint coins.
 
If or when the Euro currency collapses, the Austrian Phillharmonicas may become quite collectable... I'd buy the pander personally.
 
Philharmonics for me, but I'm partial to a good deal (Pandas are more expensive and Philharmonics are usually one of the cheapest) and one of my requirements these days is never buying a coin with Liz's head on it (or any other identifiable person's head on it).

Plus I like their tubes a fair bit. Space-efficient and not-so-easy to open fresh from the box.
The ridgeless (smooth) edges of the coins are also different.

A tube? I wish I had that kind of money (we are talking gold) and I agree, I don't like that old lady on every damn coin that I have!! I prefer the lady from Mexico!

As for price, the place I was looking at has the Panda, Roo, and Philharmonic at the same price.

Edit: in my opinion, I'd buy the less-than-one-ounce sizes.
I bought in the one ounce size and if I had to do it again I'd go 1/10th. Gold is going to just go up as the years roll on; it might be more difficult to move in one ounce. Also consider bars.

Can't wait till they start putting Kate (or Catherine, as she's now known as) on the coin, sales should increase considerably ;)
 
Since you are in Canada, I would say Maples. If someone is going to take the coins out of the country, that might change the answer. Because of the fraud issues, I now avoid Pandas. Same problem with Krugs from the 1970-1980s.

If you are strictly limiting the selection to those choices, I would go with the Philharmonic. It is a beautiful coin and Europe is not far away. I am surprised that you left off Maples and Eagles. Those coins would be my first two choices for someone living in Canada.
 
I think he already has some maples this was more for variety. Agree about he AGEs and Maples most of my gov issued gold is in maples I'd like to get some fractional AGEs but they're not easy to find in my area.
 
Sargeant is right, I was going to buy something different for my brother and then trade him a Maple + premium. I was thinking more from having a variety point of view but something that should still appreciate a bit more than the maples.
