They are at $14.8T, thats a 5% increase since the last ceiling was passed by congress

the current ceiling is $15.2T

anyone good with figures, and can anyone see where Gold is heading when the next ceiling is passed?

We also have the Europeans talking of the 1.5T European Financial Stability Fund (EFSF) what a joke, laugable to say the least, print more money to gain stability in the short term but kaos in the long term

Using your figure: they're roughly $400 billion off the ceiling atm.

Using the fresh published figure obtained via ZH:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/total-us-debt-update-1486-trillion-162-billion-increase-three-days

It looks like the debt size increased by around $50 billion a day. (holy shit, imagine if you have that kind of money...)

So, by simple math: it'll take 8 days to hit the limit! Time to load up?

wow either way you look at it the US is screwed,

Now go over to your stack tuck it in nice n warm and say thankyou :D

At the rate there going they'll run out of cash before the years out.

Dont pay your bills, cuz they aint paying theirs

Im not doing what you dont do

Your the leader Im following

You dont pay I dont pay.

Epic.

If you spent $1milllion every DAY since jesus was born, you still have only spent less than $800 Billion. To hit $15 Trillion, you would have had to have upped that $1million a day figure to almost $200 BILLION per day.

1000 billion is 1 trillion.... spending $200 billion dollars a day would get you to $1 trillion in 5 Days. in 75 days you'd be at $15 trillion.

I think you're using a different counting system? The calculation used for the debt is in fact 1000 billion = 1 trillion.

Imagine what it's going to cost to deal with the health issues of the troops returning from Iraq. It may be Vietnam all over again.

How Much is a Billion Dollars?
It is difficult to visualize just how many dollars there are in $1 billion. The politicians who are spending fortunes in government money make it sound as though they are dealing in smaller numbers by removing quite a few digits. For example, Bush's budget deficit, which at the time of this writing is $422,000,000,000 is more simply stated as $422 billion.

To put it in a different perspective, a billion is a thousand million.

To place it in a better perspective, a billion seconds ago, it was the year1959.

Humans first learned to write 252 billion seconds ago.

A billion minutes ago, Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago, our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate Washington spends it.

How Much is a Trillion Dollars?
A trillion dollars is even more incomprehensible. A trillion is a thousand billion.

One trillion seconds equals 1,688 years.

The oldest known human was alive 110 trillion seconds ago.

The US National Debt at the time of this writing is $8,538,579,172,593 or more simply stated: $8.5 trillion. The number is so large that the $1.75 billion this debt is increasing per day seems miniscule by comparison.

So, the next time you hear a politician casually use the words "billion" or "trillion" think about whether you really want that politician spending your tax money.

*tries math again* With a Government deficit of 1.5 Trillion, it now only takes Washington 5hrs and 51 minutes to spend it. I do not think anyone could physically burn that much money if they had it in even $100 bills in that time. (58.5 million individual notes).
