What's your favourite alternative non-PM, non-cash liquid asset?

How about cigars, especially before the proposed tax hike and unlike socialists, they mature with age.

Cigarettes should make for a good hedge against inflation. But do they keep well?

growing your own food to the point where you have excess to your needs and can sell/barter the surplus.

Your free time isn't free. And thing you grow generally go off, so you can't just keep them as "liquid assets".

Not sure about cigarettes, quality cigars can be stored and aged. I don't smoke cigarettes but do smoke cigars, can't see cigarettes aging or even keeping though because of their construction.

Disposable cigarette lighters, I have thousands of them, they will be the new currency come 2017

yeah sorry, i forgot everyone wants 'wealth for no toil'. we should change that line in our national anthem.
my point was to move to the production side of the ledger not stay on the consumer side. this i feel will be a a good hedge against a downtown.

Can't imagine a hardened smoker refusing a cig which has pasted its use by date. "It might be bad for me."

I think enough backups of precious metals, food, water, fuel and cash will allow you to barter any other consideration.
