What laws affect you

I was thinking about a few threads on here lately about loss of freedom etc & wondering what laws actually stop you from doing what you really want to do .

Even though im OS at the moment before i left i was a bit dirty on some areas closed for fishing & camping/hunting & the need to get a licence to go fishing . Just the fact its called a licence really put me offside . thinking ..now i need a licence to catch a feed .. :rolleyes:
 
I find the law of gravity the most irksome
:)

But seriously, the more I look at the laws and the population I wonder how much education will be needed to teach people the responsibilities of freedom (ie: freedom does not take from someone else, something that many ignore with their wishes for 'freedom' to act anti-socially or consequence free).

The law I find truly irksome is the restriction on freedom of speech because it is only when ALL ideas are open to discussion can we grow and find the best solutions.
 
It's the all-pervasiveness for me. Like they are in almost every aspect of my life. The nanny that is there to protect me from myself.

If I had to boil it down, that is how I would describe it, being made to feel like the naughty child. We're grown adults FFS. Well, most some of us...
 
Speed limits

What I hate the most is probably not a law it's nanny-taxes, such as tobacco and alcohol, I don't smoke, but I do drink (fairly) occasionally and I compare prices as to when I'm over seas and it's rediculess
 
Apart from not doing anything that stops anybody else from doing their thing, like threats of / causing someone physical harm or fraud and so on... basically anything where there is a victim...
i don't see anything else as really applying to me.. we are Natural people.. we are not the legal fiction that many laws apply to. (unless we consent.)

My boss reckons drink driving should be legal, and he's got a pretty good argument as to why -
The reason it is illegal is that you increase the risk if hurting / killing someone, in other words you might hurt of kill someone, and you start getting fines for things that you might do we are heading to a scary place.

The real reason is because he plays in a pub band and he blames drink driving laws for the pathetic turn out he gets at the gigs.
I don't want to be the one to tell him the real reason.

I watched those vids, very interesting but I wonder if it has ever been tested in Australia.
I don't hear of people getting off because their name was spelled in capitals too often. Having said that, if ever before a judge I have learned to respond that the name is not mine, it appears to be the name of a corporation...


On topic - not being allowed to do U-turns at traffic lights in SA is a major PITA. Have to drive for ages sometimes to find a place to turn around.

Electronic cigarettes are banned in Australia despite no proof they are harmful.

While you can buy ecig juice from Australian online websites you have to order the nicotine separately from the US.

So yes we know where there interests lie, and its not our health.
 
Australia needs to get out of the stone age with it's road rules and to make left turns on red lights after stopping standard at every traffic light except those marked otherwise. Driving in the US is so much smoother due to being able to turn right at red lights. It dramatically reduces congestion and wait times.

I taught my daughter to drive.

She got her permit first go.

I taught her to drive barefoot.

The one lesson from a company asked her what she was doing taking off her footwear!!!

Seems that it is illegal to drive barefoot.

WTF!!!!!!

Illegal to drive barefoot!! That's un-Australian!

I'm sure if that were true there would be RFT (random footware testing) stationed at all the beachside suburbs on a hot day.

4. The law that will probably say I need to pay twice as much tax on Super income as most others.
5. The law that says I can only contribute $25k in deductible contributions to my Super.
6. The law that said I had to pay nearly 5 times as much flood levy than most others.
7. The law that says a car worth over $59,133 attracts an additional 33% tax.
8. The law that adds up to another 7% to the price of a house.

And on and on...
