Yesterday, whilst sweating profusely, I dug a hole around 15 inches deep in quartz and clay to discover this....

Judging by the patination (and the gouge I put in it with my pick :P) its made of copper, but its highly worn so I cant see any identifying marks.

Perhaps an eagle-eyed person may be able to see what I cannot.

It's a Chinese slaves identification tag. Originally worn around either the LH wrist or LH ankle.

Nah. Just joking :) I have no idea

Trade token

Not impossible.

The sufaces are heavily worn, but not completely flat. I reckon it is a stamped or minted coin, but a trading token is also a possibly.

The hole and notches have been added by a person some years after the coin was made.

Looks like one of Spanners fancy pieces of jewellery that was misplaced and EM has dug up. Most likely lost it on a rally drive. : )

It looks as if the hole has been stamped with a punch and not drilled.

May have been punched, There are marks inside the rim of the hole possibly more consistent with a punch being used rather than a drill. Not sure whether the burr is more of a sign of one or the other. Might have taken a few whacks to do it I reckon.
