What is the most affordable gold coin?

Ive been collecting for a few years now and i would like to get a gold coin to add to my growing silver collection....anyone know a really cheap cold coin? i was think about a kruggerand but i can't afford that

I got some 1/25ths here..

Don't think they are cheap (per ounce) though.... Premium % is probably one of the largest.

Put some 5 cent coins into the freezer and you'll get some lovely cheap cold coins :)
 
how about sovereigns or $200 gold coins? both can be had for spot + 6% or thereabouts if you look around and are about $360 and $440 respectively. ballpark.
 
I think from memory jack is only 12 maybe he might want to tell us how much he has to spend then someone can try to help him out i dont have any fractional gold coins

And yeah, stay away from small gold coins ( less than 0.08 oz agw ) until you think you know what you are doing.

Half sovereigns are 0.1177 agw ( about 9 of them make 1 ounce ) and you should be able to find them for around $170 - $195 .


If that is too much money for 1 coin, you can SELL some of your silver coins ( about $120 worth ) and you put up about 1/3 ( about $60 ) from your MONEY
and with that money you go and get a half sovereign.
 
Another option might be a 1 ducat coin - sometimes I've seen them for not too high a premium. They're 0.1106 agw.
 
First define your terms. Do you mean cheap as in least cost for the coin or least cost for the gold? You can buy gold by the gram if you want. For the gold that can be bought for the closest to spot, Krugerands used to fit the bill, used to get them at spot + $5 but they've gotten expensive lately. In the US, Mexican is the cheapest (closest to spot) that I know of. I bought some 50 Peso (1.2 oz coins) for about $25 total premium several months back. That was about 1.5% at the time.

I don't like coins that I need a magnifying glass to see.
 
Definitely a fan of the $200 Australian gold coins. Can be found for near spot most times. Around $450 per coin now. I would go for those.
 
Hey guys - newbie question along the same lines:

What is the best value coin to get in terms of low premium for the gold content? I would prefer higher Au oz content than low price - or cast ingots the go?

If you want value for money and not too high a premium,and liquidity(easy to resell)
Sovereigns and $200's
 
I like the 'history' of sovereigns and half sovs. When you hold them you can almost hear the trades and dreams of those who've held them before you. Half sov is a 'natural' size it seems to me. It was designed as currency and so you don't need a magnifying glass to see it, nor are you in danger of losing it if you drop it on the carpet. So for a starter coin I'd go there. Also (correct me if I'm wrong) potential of fakes seems small.

And next up the Oz $200 coins feel nice. Like a one dollar coin that really matters. Agree that Sovs and the $200's are the best option next to 0.9999 ounce bullion coins like Maples.
 
Lol the aussie 200's i can dream about but im just looking for a gold coin that is around....hmm 50 to 100 dollars? im not looking to buy online either...ill probaly goto the coin shop and enquire about them.....what about a 1/20th kruggerand...i can't find anything about them....the calculators?..idk
 
If you want to spend $50-$100 on gold, than for that amount of money you will maximise the weight of gold if you buy them as NUGGETS in my opinion.

The smaller the coin, the more expensive it will be.
