What influences the price of silver!!!!

I have been thinking of buying a small amount of silver recently but one thing I would like to know is what are the factors that determine its price? What caused the silver spike of 1981 and 2011, were they related to market demand or something else? The reason I ask, is how is investing in silver or gold any different from the share market as many people suggest that the latter is considered speculative while precious metals are somehow more immune to price manipulation. One more thing is that if silver's price goes too high will this adversely affect manufacturers who use it in their products, and if so would their be artificial limits placed on silver's price to ensure suppy contracts (if any) can be maintained?

Any light shed on this topic would be much appreciated.

Me... I buy = it goes down... I sell = It goes up.
But in reality it is the shorts that wear the pants :P

Supply side:

Bullion Banks (creating paper silver)
Mining companies COP (costs of production)

Demand Side:

Substitutes - Both paper currencies (PPT - plunge protection team keeping silver and gold low to keep the US$ and intl fiat currencies looking strong) and industrial substitutes --- Digital cameras meaning silver is less required in photo processing

New Tech and patents..

Im sure there is tons more variables, have a brainstorm.. must be a website laying this out somewhere.

If YOU buy, it'll go down.

That's just how it feels all the time with silver :D

I want to be your counter party

never Anyone say "time"

that will be the most accurate answer, the longer the time is, the higher would be for silver price B

you are moving from point A. ---> point B.

this is not the case for gold, the longer the time from now, there will be more gold available to be dump into the markets. and there will b more available gold for SALE!

;)

I've heard that if silver is $1,000 the price of a macbook would rise by $100.
