I don't think it's anything new. I've been noticing the lack of drive for the last 20 years.
We might possibly have 1 out of 10 hires that we keep.
The rest either quit or get fired and the ONE new hire might might stick around for a year or two, and that's starting pay at about $35 an hour average FOR NO EXPERIENCE.
We've gone from a crew of 30 to only 5 or 6 now, and using temp help.
Kinda make it tough to actually do asphalt work with people that don't know anything.
Just finding enough qualified drivers to haul our equipment is a huge hurdle.
It's almost become a full time babysitting job now.
They forget their gloves or water, don't have any food or money, alarm doesn't go off in the morning or they have court dates.
Seems like it's my job to pick up where their parents failed them.
Kids have absolutely everything they could want today except their parents to raise them.
