What did you buy today , of the non PM range

got this jug today West German maybe?
it's quite large, and has a corks in both ends.
it's got a ink stamp on the bottom.. however it isn't exactly easy to read.

i don't know.. it came with some sort of sticky soy sauce in the bottom.. it was gross, i cleaned it.
if it was for water. it still confuses me, cos if it was full, and you undid the cork, the water would just RUSH out like crazy.. so i dunno. kinda hoping someone here does. :P
i've being trying to find something similar online for the last hour to no avail.
 
A chest freezer, because I am the 'Bucket Chef' - I cook large quantities of stew, curry or today my speciality: roasted vegetables with tuna. These are all meals that freeze well and my repertoire means I can buy whatever is in season/cheap and make a bucket of it. In some cases (curry in particular), it actually tastes better when frozen, defrosted and reheated.

My stews and curries are made using an old and very economical slow-cooking method that allows me to use the cheapest cuts of meat available. You combine all the ingredients in a big stock pot, bring to the boil then remove from the heat and wrap the pot in an old doona/quilt/duvet. It stays hot enough to continue cooking for hours with no need for more heat, cooking for free!
 
Slipped into Woolies on impulse today, came out with yet another 1Kg of rice, a bag of quick oats, and 3 packets of powdered milk.

Do that sort of thing quite often.

Best to take the pessimists view on this subject. "hope for the best and prepare for the worst", play 'what ifs' to identify problems.

Mine runs to NIL gas, and major electricity disruption, which means COOKING is a problem. Not much good having 300Kg of rice if you cannot cook it. Hard to make porridge with out heat! No power means no ducted gas heating, the fans will not run. Extra warm clothing. Live like they did before Edison came along. A big stack of heavy candles, and BATTERIES! Good battery radio or two!

Learn all about Thermos Flask rice cooking! Learn how they survived in Argentina, Germany, Zimbabwe, and Venezuela!

Hobo stoves, spirit stoves, 3 burner portable BBQ, the back yard BBQ etc, with LOTS of fuel. (Got all that!)

PMs are all about long term survival, the above gets the wife and kids fed.

Have rice; ($6.75 for 5kg at Woolies the other week) wheat has much higher protein content - can sprout wheat, boil or grind, (Good grinders are expensive) can grow it easily, cheaper than rice.

Charcoal - smokeless fire also great for getting the coal started (Coking coal). Also have coke for super-hot fire.

Salt - Cheapest table salt cost about 80 cents for 500gram, apart from that, the pool salt (Sunray brand from Woolies or Bunnings) is ok to eat / use in cooking, I also use it to grow a few fish), How many uses for salt? - At $7 a bag, it's cheap. They use to pay Roman soldiers in salt.

Boots - Not fancy! The Redbacks have great quality "Soft" leather, Australian made and a steel cap; once they are worn in ( a week or less), you can easliy walk as far as someone wearing Salomon walking boot. Steel caps also have benefits.

I have about 8x 10Kg bags of rice, ($10 each, and 'Koala' brand on sale at Woolies now), and lord knows how many 1Kg bags. Many of those will end up as barter.

Never knew about the charcoal! Never even seen it for sale. (I also have some gas canister stoves. Good for indoor I think.)

All this stuff is in a 'storage facility'.

I bought 3 months for 2 people early this year. I thought I'd bite the bullet and have the peace of mind knowing that I'm covered. I found the same issue with imagining all the shiny stuff I could buy with that money but I am happy to have it in nice solid buckets just stored away. I don't expect to ever need more than a few days, maybe weeks, but it lasts for 25+ years so it is a great insurance policy.
 
I don't know enough to tell if it is fake or not, but it has the magnification over the dates like a lot of the fakes don't so that is positive. It looks aged and still in good nick.
was it at a garage sale?
you lucky prick, I bet it cost you like $10 bucks or something.
