LOL

Those crazy survivalists / preppers who advocate stacking a bit of cash are looking foolish right now aren't they? Oh no that's the people that called them crazy that are looking daft

Here I am sitting at home thinking everything was alright when low and behold I watch a video from Bundaberg Police advising people to get out of an area which I thought was well above what the peak flood waters were forecast.

Have made contact by phone so my son and his family are safe. Told to evacuate, Has gone to his partners parents place which is only about 4k away.

River is being rated at moving speed of 40kph.

Maybe even the silver shop is in danger! :) Hope my mate John is OK, His shop is right in the heart of Bundy.

Jeez, send some of that rain down here. After 10 years of drought in these parts, we luckily had two somewhat wet summers (2010-11, 2011-12), including some record breaking rain in March 2012.

It has barely rained since then and it's bone dry. Everything's dead and brown again like it was at the height of the drought. Combined with the record breaking heat this month it's not good. Plenty of trees (especially birches and poplars) looking like they are in full colour already ... but it's not due to autumn, it's due to heat stress.

Would be grateful even for 50 mm or so? Please? :)

Have you had your 50 mm yet Cimexus ?

Most of our customers weren't too fazed, had a couple who didn't have any cash, told em I accept gold jewellery or firstborn.

Cash under the matress really is saving for a rainy day.

Managed to get a dodgey connection. . . Temporarily. Got smashed today. 600mm of rain. Power poles and trees down everyhere. No power. Totally isolated by flood water. Have cold beer so will be ok.

crazy, crazy weather...perhaps worse than 2 years ago..strange thing is, it cleared out completely for an hour in the afternoon,no wind, beautiful sunshine, absolutely no sign of any storm...and then bang again, the rain and wind are back...just like when the eye of the hurricane is passing...if u experienced that before...coincidence? hmmm...

It's caused by the banding around the low, just like a spiral with arms twisting around the center, nasty bits with good bits in between and nastier near the center as the bad bits are closer together. I think that made sense ??? :/

A few gallons of guzzoline in jerrycans means there's no need to stop at the servo too!

+1 this makes a lot of sense!

I saw fisticuffs at the servo over fuel, and over break and milk at the supermarket the last time we were flooded in here at Hervey Bay. :/

I have a few jerry cans of fuel that will keep the fourbie going for a while (or the bosses buzz box going for a month or more!), enough bread in the freezer to keep us going, and a few boxes full of longlife milk to make sure the tin lids can have their brekkie cereal. Times like this having a stacked pantry is a godsend :)

Just this month;

*I've used stored water & water filter when some idiot backhoe driver started work without a "Dial B4 U Dig" and dug up a water pipe.
(not only cutting off water, but sending dirt through the lines).
*Dug into my cash back-up when the comms went down
*Used my fuel back-up

It shouldn't really be called "prepping" it should be called common sense :) just have enough water, food, cash and fuel set aside incase you need it.

You crazy prepper you, having some shit sorted and all. It really amazes me at times with the last minute scurry for what most see as essentials the dependence on the system for bare basics, and I am torn on who to blame for the result. Is it the people who fail to prepare themselves or the system for shepherding in everyone into a reliance upon the system in the first place? Most do not have the option of buying ahead as they are reliant on a week to week, pay check to pay check existence and struggle to keep their heads above water as it is. An event like this happens and everyone is told to assemble at X position and are then reliant on the 'System' for survival.
What if the system does not have your best interests as a priority ?
