Hi all,

Barring a forgery I'd say yes... But as I've never actually seen one in real life, I ain't no expert ;) Take it to a coin specialist first for confirmation. You might be in luck as really banged up ones go for around the $100 mark and yours seems to be in good condition.

I use the pic below for reference but there seems to be a few slightly different varieties and some with more definition

Beware there are many forgeries around mimicking this wave often derived from some sort of heat treatment of the metal. A genuine wavy 20 has a gentle curve that is paralleled in the water swirl directly above.

I would suggest attending a local numismatic meet (believe most states hold monthly meets ).

At these meets you normally find a number of well knowledge dealers under the same roof....giving you the opportunity to gather more than one opinion.

What in the coin looks wavy?

the base of the 2 is wavy, I think they were minted in the UK? look at a modern 20c and youll see the diff

Cool a circulated wavy goes for around $100 $200 on the bay.
up to $2500 for uncirculated minted in London there are two types of wavy error coins Google has lots of links.

Thanks for the input guys. Went to a dealer today and was told it is the real deal. Now to put it on flea bay and see what I can get for it. Then I can get me some more silver.

Do you realise how many 20c pieces i have looked at hoping, just hoping, that one would end up being the wavy coin that i'd get for free?

Lots and lots and lots.

Well done.

is it possible to see a picture of the obverse please? the legend is different on the london mint coin. At first glance it looks suss to me.

i have a friend that has a full 1966 reserve bank roll of wavy baseline 20c peices put away. he brought it in 1966 too. so they are out there and a fantastic investment if your lucky enough.

That's good news! Did the dealer give you a price indication or make an offer for it?

We also call it fee bay which you can avoid by trading here :)

Dealer said it should go for $350 on flea bay. Wasnt sure if there would be any interest on here for this coin. If anybody wants it they can give me a pm.

Doh! Sorry NapMan, I meant to quote littlefella in post #10, not you. :p

The question makes more sense then I hope :)

Hi gcsun,
Not all, they are unsure of the mintage but it would be very low, I would be keeping it if it were mine, great find!

Added edit: the top line of the horizontal part of the "2" forms a crest (convex) rather than being perfectly horizontal and the crest causes the water ripple above it to be concave, this probably makes no sense! There should be some good pictures on google or ebay.

Blake.
