W&F: Will your Gold expire within 186.1 days? Gold Kill Switch

ok ok ... let's settle this - It's more expensive to create the various conconcted isotopes of gold in labs than it is to mine it.
Says who? Me (cause I know I have published mock cyclotron running costs)? Information freely available on the internet does not mean factual or accurate.

Are you talking about a conspiracy of producing these isotopes with short half-lives, or simply obtaining them and selling them as stable gold?
Yes.
Perhaps reading the original post helps.

Add to this any of the other points SS members have made such as cost of the isotope.
Please supply source. Thanks. Otherwise, stfu.

@Everyone
Most of you members here are quite familiar with currency wars, corruption of banks, manipulation of spot metals amongst other flurry of conspiracy theories. The average population brand you as a nutbar (since they are narrow-minded and believe what they are told).
Why do you not apply 'this' same open mindedness to Kill Switches (isotope switching)? Eh? You don't doubt the conspiracy of tungsten filled bars.

Some good comments and questions raised. Keep it up.

This has to be the most awesome conspiracy theory thread I have ever read; very unique and not the usual bullshyt your average nut can think of.

you forget the fact that half life isnt half the time for all the radioactive isotope to disappear. .
Yes, I mentioned this in Part 2
Now, unlike the average researcher out there, my time in researching is approx 2-3 hours before creating thread.
I also try to limit jargon as the average audience is not scientifically apt, hence the excessive simplicity.
Please take this into consideration.

Please take the time to read part 2 and leave a comment. Thanks.

Good to see others interested in Chemistry.

WHAT A LOTTA BULLSHIT. IF YA BELIEVE THAT YOU BELIEVE IN THE TOOTH FAIRY.

Here is a layman breakdown; if you had one ounce of 195Au (the 'unstable' isotope of Gold with a half life of 186.1 days) and you came back to 'check' on that ounce by weighing it with scales/balances in 186.1 days, you will discover it will no longer weigh 31.1 grams or one troy ounce, instead it will only weigh 15.55 grams (half an ounce). In 186.1 days you would of lost half a troy ounce!

Well not quite. It will still weigh close to 31.1 g, it's just that half of the gold will have decayed into 195Pt instead. You wouldn't be able to weigh it to confirm whether or not something had happened, you'd have to actually do a metallurgical analysis of it. (Although come to think of it, you may be able to tell visually - a 50:50 Au/Pt mix wouldn't really look very golden any more, since as I recall, gold's 'gold' colour is produced by its electron arrangement, which will have been disrupted due to the fact 195Au decays via electron capture).

Notwithstanding this, as someone said before, if there was a conspiracy to do this, it would require a huge amount of energy to produce such a gold isotope in the first place, and would be completely pointless since 195Au ends up decaying into an element almost as valuable (and historically even more valuable) as gold anyway. Makes no sense to concoct a scheme that benefits absolutely no-one yet requires huge resources and effort to pull off.

Physics and chemical physics deals with the radioactive stuff. its is a good topic..
and this theory of yours isnt that far out.

on this. would the colour of this 195Au even be yellow? as we know its the electrons that make the colour. and different isotopes would have different electron arrangements.

(and can we get the auto spell check to spell colour right?)

If you are going to bait, do so subtly whilst adding your lacking constructive opinion.
Don't believe in the possibility of kill switches, then fine, add your reasons why.

Get back in that cage.

James 5:3
King James Version (KJV)
Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
Cankered to rust down, corrode
Rust to go, to send, venom, poison, rust
Fire fiery, fire
Someone knew about corrosion 2000 yrs ago

Good question.

Without resorting to Google; my assumption is yes. From my understanding, Gold retains its yellow colour till you get down to Monoatomic outer orbital (more discussed about monoatomic gold here).

Perhaps someone with more Google experience can find a definite answer to, why is gold "gold" colour, and when is gold no longer "gold" colour?

So I've decided I want to make some gold isotopes, so I can flog it off to some unsespecting sheeple. Don't worry, I won't try to sell it on SS, cos all you guys are my friends.

I checked Ebay, but I couldn't find any particle accelerators or nuclear reactors for sale, but if anyone has one they are looking to sell, then please pm me.
I'm also looking for a high temperature centrifuge or some other method of separating the different isotopes that I'm going to make. Cos as far as I can tell, after I bombard my lead with particles (either in a accelerator or by nuclear) I may get a whole heap of other stuff as well as the Au I'm looking for. I'm not exactly sure how to separate it, as although I am trained as a chemist, I must have been in the uni bar during that lecture, or maybe I just didn't enrol in Alchemy 201...... I can't really remember, it's all a bit of a blur. Maybe some more googling is required.

I was also considering just making Au197, since if I'm going to go to all the trouble of manufacturing Gold, I may as well make the good stuff, but then I thought it would probably just be more fun to make Au195 or some other isotope, cos I love to a mess with peoples minds and I just reakon it would be pretty cool to watch people's faces when they realise their Au and decayed into something else.

If anyone want's to team up, I'm keen. I'm not sure how much a particle accelerator costs, but I'm willing to chip in a few grand, but I want to keep 85% of the profits cos I've decided I'm going to be the brains behind this plan.

I've also been working on my mad scientist laugh. It's coming along nicely, and I plan to enter this competition next year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ribaImJ7WaU.
I allready have mad hair and a lob coat so everything is on track I reakon.

glam, do you often have sex with sheep?

Well, here is the thing; if you are going to troll, get to the fkn point, not an epistle. Gosh.
