What would you guys reckon a 1kg Lunar Ox series 2 is valued at in the current market?

Depends how badly you want it

As all series 2 kilos can be reminted any time until 2019 or whatever I wouldn't pay more than the current kilo snake or horse

But you may want to pay more if you desperately want one now

Yea Kam is the man and has provided me with a large amount of my lunar collection. Got my 10oz Ox off Kam, so I am sure he will have an idea of the kilo one too.

Thanks Trew, I totally agree with your advice and have a close mate who tells me the same every time I look to buy a kilo lunar. :) I did factor in a slight premium on the current year lunar kilo coins, however for the certainty of having the coin now, I am very comfortable with the price I paid.

Besides, silver spot by 2019 may be a fair bit higher than it is right now... hahaha... who knows.

If you are worried about spot you can buy a kilo bar now as close to spot as you can get and then some time in the future when reminted ones come on the market, sell the kilo bar

As Trew mentioned, whith the stupid remint policy I wouldn't pay any premium for the Ox compared to other years, there has been a remint earlier this year though the mint didn't provide any office numbers, at least not that I'm aware of

Coins like Rabbits and Tigers were available at dealers for decent premiums till around June when spot dropped, now older years are not easy to find.

So till 2019, PM will still mint early years kilo lunars on a mint to order basis, below are the sales to date, however if the mint get big order for let's say the Mice or the Oxen, they will use they remint policy to supply the distributors

Tiger : 33,774
Rabbit : 46,085
Dragon : 55,526
Snake : 11,970
 
While on this subject of kilos, what's a fair market price for the 1 kilo 2008 silver proof Mouse or the 2009 kilo proof Ox? I am genuinely interested in knowing.
