Value of mint 1966 50 cent pieces?

Would you expect mint (as in, still in the roll) 1966 50s would command much of a premium over the standard coin price.

What sort of premium would you expect them to fetch, if any ?

I'm sure somebody sold a few rolls here for twice they're usual value ,somewhere around $300 a roll & they were getting a bit more on ebay

I would expect them to fetch extra. Because eBay people think there's something better about those, than my dirty grubby ones in a plastic bag.

I still have a couple rolls, genuine Bank of NSW, never opened...

Could sell them for a good price,

but I'm not in a hurry with them as these are very rare nowadays.

For a single piece,,,no, same price with what it should worth.

But..

If they comes a whole mint role, then worth couple of hundreds.say around 300 to 500.
 
the shiny ones seem to go for a bit more on ebay, try there. If you take them to a bullion dealer you will only get spot price no matter how shiny.
 
In a roll you would have to expect at least 50% over sale value as they fall into numi territory. Guy I know regularly grades the coins he gets in to on sell on ebay as collect able

Good ones ....obviously . :)

I wont touch them & think they are worth less than spot like dirty sixpences .... but what do i know....I know .999 is real silver :cool:

I know . They sell like hotcakes & i cant work out why . Its just a dirty old out of circulation coin . Some things just defy logic . Like i said i dont see the logic in paying a premium for one & not paying a premium for another like a shilling, sixpence or florin... madness if you ask me .
 
Bummer I'd have thought there might have been something in this premium for new rolls caper. My old mans got a couple stashed away, said I can have em but not sure where he put them......

Why the premium? Perhaps it's more easily recognised as silver for those outside stacking circles?

If you were old enough to earn and spend money in 1965 even a 5 year old then is over 50 now. But there's a whole couple of generations after this where the 50s have been the only money they handle along with a whole bunch of currency. Surely the last two run ups to $50 have helped spread the word.

That's what I did with the broken rolls...

This is only 1 roll transferred into capsules, I had too, the wrapping paper was crumbling, now I have about 200 of them (about 10 broken rolls, out of 12) I am eventually going to try to sell them on Ebay (I believe most Stackers wouldn't want to pay more than the silver value, which is fine, but with a bit of presentation and some explanation (and better pictures) they probably will sell more than $15 each... I'm prepared to bet on that, any takers ? lol

If you only get $15...after fees...you get maybe 20cent more than here? It's really hard to tell how the auction will ended up.

Hello

i might be able to shed some light in why the 1966 50c pieces sell like hot cakes. As a dealer i cant get enough of these coins, i love them as they are by far the easiest silver coinage to move. WHY?

there is a couple of factors

1. Australian 50c pieces are the most collected out of all the circulation coins, the 1966 50c piece is one of the most recognized silver coins in Australia. Most people know there is silver in this coin.

2. they made alot of these coins, at some stage or another everyone that collects coins or silver would have owned one of these beauties.

BUT the most important factor is the liquidity of these coins. You can Sell 1 or 1000 coins. People would still buy them, its a coin that can be turned into cash asap in small amounts or larger amounts WITH NO QUESTION ABOUT THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SILVER!!!. The government issued coinage is a great bonus.

unlike the predecimal coinage most people feel more inclined to buy 1966 50c as fractional silver then predecimals. they are a bigger coin, people like cleaning them. Also now a key factor, people who buy on ebay like shiny coins.

when cleaned you need sun glasses to look at them under a light.
