Anyone here got tips and experience on how to buy and sell (i.e. flip) used cars in Australia for a profit? I know I guy who claims he has thus far successfully flipped 8 used cars for a profit every time.

I knew a panel beater who did this but he would go to auctions and buy repairable write-offs.
Then fix them up and flog them off, he also did work for some shady car yards who did the same thing :/

Have done it a few times now. Made $5k on a 320ci that I used for 6 months
Bought them out in the sticks in good condition and low mileage. Watched the sales and learned what sold and for what. Then when I knew a sale was a bargain, was on it offering cash for immediate sale.
Pain in the ass after that with Gov meddling, enquiries, test drives, advertising etc

bought my wife repairable writeoff 2year old mazda 3 done 16k on odometer, all the parts and labour even had to bring a car from newcastle for parts ended up being about 10.5k. We didnt sell it but similar ones on ebay at the time (last year) were 15k+. This is with minimal effort from me. Had to drive around a bit for a few parts, call some wreckers and attend few auctions. If i was a pensioner this is what i'd be doing.
The only problem about making money this way is you're money may be tied up for about 2 months while its fixed and then you wait for the inspection. Then selling may be hard depending on how popular it is, one car can end up sitting 6 months in your yard or it could take a week. If you;re selling make sure you dont hide the information that it has a crash history as it has been written off and your lawbound to say it was. You can sell 5 cars a year without paying tax after that have to declare to ato

I'm not sure if it counts but I went through a drunken trend of flipping Smart cars on their side with mates. We called it urban cow tipping rather than car flipping though.

When I was at school, me and my mates used them on the water board roads in the scrub to pretend we were in the WRC.
Had an old corolla which had been cut at the dash level for the length of the car - no roof, windows or windscreen, and the seats weren't even bolted in.
Mate rolled it and nearly killed other mate - that was the end of that. :|

Im currently studying and i buy and sell cars to flip on the side. For a hobby i buy cars (1990-2000) clean them up and sell em.
as i am of the younger generation i tend to stick to more "boy racer" style of cars. Nissan, Toyota or Mazda brands seem to work best for me here in New Zealand.
Profit after cleaning agents, Wof/rego costs etc is roughly $800 monthly. I have recently started importing wheels to change appearance of the cars which appeal to my customers.
Any ideas on how to import cars at a reasonable price to Auckland??
