Something I came across online:

Seventy-three percent of the new civilian jobs created in the United States over the last five months are in government, according to official data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In June, a total of 142,415,000 people were employed in the U.S, according to the BLS, including 19,938,000 who were employed by federal, state and local governments.

By November, according to data BLS released today, the total number of people employed had climbed to 143,262,000, an overall increase of 847,000 in the six months since June.

In the same five-month period since June, the number of people employed by government increased by 621,000 to 20,559,000. These 621,000 new government jobs created in the last five months equal 73.3 percent of the 847,000 new jobs created overall.

Thats all the article pretty much, just thought it was a staggering tidbit on the growth of Leviathan.

There is a book by Ben Elton where 99% of jobs are government jobs. Was a good read but not so far fetched I think.

So much for the touted US recovery.

No surprise here. Obama just likes things to appear nice when they really aren't. I don't see how this could help the economy at all.

It gets worse

There was a startling figure that came across my desk from the United States Department of Agriculture regarding food stamp usage in the SNAP program. Food stamp usage has grown dramatically in the last decade even during the debt inspired boom times. Yet the devil is always in the details as we reported with the unemployment rate really dropping because of the over 500,000 Americans simply dropping out of the labor force. The food stamp figures are stunning because they show in the last two months food stamp usage has skyrocketed by over 1,000,000. In the last month of data observation, food stamp usage increased by more than 600,000. Keep in mind to qualify for food stamps you have to carefully demonstrate that you are earning very little and technically are classified as being in poverty. So what does it say that our nation now has 47.7 million Americans on food stamps? SNIP

For a government that's already broke, you do have to wonder at the level of 'wisdom' in engineering an environment for political show that ensures so much of the populace are reliant on the government either for employment or sustenance

When the government defaults, the population of that country not self reliant will riot and the place will descend into chaos.

It's no wonder the government of the day are pushing so hard to jump on every tragic event when some nutbag goes ballistic to disarm the population.

When the population realises the government isn't going to save them when they go broke, you'll see this sort of crap nation wide IMHO.

It's the whole jobs thing. The whole "everyone has to work a 40 hour week" still despite all the productivity improvements we've seen.

Government basically taxes people to the limit it can get away with and inflates the rest insuring people have to keep continually working all the time in this 40hr week paradigm. When the market starts to revolt against it and lots of people lose their jobs the answer is to create pointless jobs just so they get a wage.

Tax one group of people tons of money and give it to another group to push around papers and other useless things. Then because of ridiculous taxes the first group is working much more than they would have to, and the second group is wasting countless hours each week doing virtually nothing productive.

It's complete madness. The entire paradigm needs to change and I think we'd have much better quality lives as a result. But people just won't let go of this tradition despite the fact the world has clearly changed.
