I was wondering if you could share some light on this. I recently purchased an umicore 250g bar from a reliable source my issue is its weighing in at 251g came minted sealed and passes magnet tests but is this normal for these poured bars?

got me stumped. I know when silver was "cheaper" then some manufacturers weren't as exact with their measurements. More recently though it has paid to make sure they are not giving away freebies, so not sure.

This is why im stumped.. over weight tends to factor on the fake side. and im yet to have communication back from my supplier

1 gram?
Could your scales be slightly out of whack?
If your only measuring to the nearest gram then 250.5 grams will round up.. so we are only talking a small difference here

^ I was going to say, perhaps your scale I'd out whack.
Generally there is some variance on both sides with items just to account for facts such as air bubbles and things I think. Might want to check the official websites variance.

Umicore is an LBMA member and you'll generally find that companies who work to that sort of standard will err on the side of caution and produce slightly over-weight bars rather than under-weight ones.

Depending on how accurate your scales are, it could easily due to rounding on a fractionally over-weight bar as suggested above. If your scales are out by 0.25g and the bar is over-weight by 0.25g then that would add up to 0.5g and subsequently get rounded up to 1g.

If you'd been be this pecky about the spot price instead of the bar tolerance, the bar would have weighted 7% instead of 0.4% more. :D
