Something very strange going on with the lunar skull proof series.
On the one hand we are all aware of the original-of-the-species lunar skull series from SM mint.
Last years lunar skull goat issued under authority of Ghana, this years monkey skull issued under Palau.
But i am now seeing a couple of German dealers beginning to list a competing lunar skull.
"2016 Ghana 1oz proof lunar skull year of the monkey" which i first thought was a typo of Ghana instead of Palau.
Until i read this interesting line "this is the real follower of the Ghana lunar skulls goat 2015".
How is this claim allowed to be made?
And with pictures (but the first one fracted- presumably until official release)
I can just make out the same style on the skull side with regard to layout and especially the lettering style.
so.... what is happening here?
A competing mint claiming the series by continuing under Ghana? Can this be allowed to happen? Where does this leave the collector of the series?
I have noticed the following on SM mint site, so they are presumably aware of this mysterious other issue;
"You can be sure that any coin or product marketed as "Lunar Skulls" that is not listed on the websites above are NOT part of the "Lunar Skulls" series and should be viewed as counterfeit illegal items."
Although strictly speaking, if Ghanaian representatives have given their blessing and with legal tender status...........
