Trying to send 20kg's plus silver to NZ! Please help :)

Well they are my mate's.

He has moved to NZ last year and he wants them shipped.
But I have told him to make a trip to sydney with his wife together for like a day, so that shouldnt be a problem i guess?

I know G4S and Brinks both do international shipping of bullion, since they're both secure logistics companies.

That being said, they're friggin' expensive...

1. Carry everything in a bag to the airport,
2. Before you get to the weigh-in, take the excess bullion out of the bag and put it in your pockets,
3. Present your bag at the weigh-in,
4. Leave the weigh-in,
5. Walk ten meters,
6. Take the bullion out of your pockets and put it back in the bag,
7. Board aircraft,
8. Stash the bag under the seat not in the overhead locker in full accordance with safety procedures

Done it myself a number of times. The whole weigh-in procedure is completely pointless because they only weigh the bag and not the passenger. There is no practical difference between carrying a pile of bullion in your pockets and being fat.

Its actually not that difficult.

Cargo pants: 2kgs per thigh-pocket (4kgs), 2kg per hip-pocket (4kgs)
Jacket: 1kg per side pocket (2kgs),
Coat: 1kg per side pocket (2kgs)

...and if you have a fishing jacket you can load up with 10kgs+ just there.

That could even be done at the gate if they re-weigh the bag there. They can't do anything about it. Best to put bullion in little bags, so no one but security is aware of it (don't want people knowing you're the guy with all them shiny bars once you part ways with the passengers on the plane). Be aware that I have heard of security considering a single kg of Silver to be a blunt object (weapon).

carry on is a bit of a farce really... i'm skinny as but a person weighing twice as much as me can have same carry on weight. Carry on weight should be "means tested" :)
 
Carry on weight limits are due to safety apparently. The maximum safe weight to fall on someones head from overhead comboxment is 7kg. On Jetscar Jetstar, up to 10kg is safe to fall on your head.
