I've been grabbing a few toned pieces as they crop up, some of these look downright grubby on the other side or don't look that great until you tilt them but you catch them in the right light and they really pop. I have a few more that I much post soon. A couple of them I hadn't noticed were toned when I got them though and it makes me think that they might have gotten that way over the summer thanks to the way they were stored but others in the same conditions didn't...odd.

Are there many nice examples yet of naturally toned ASEs? (Besides the one at the start of this thread.)

I suspect that many ASEs have been artificially toned..I have a couple of very suss toners in my collection.

They have been exhibited here ..finde'm for yourself

The intriguing thing about toning,sometimes, is trying to spot the dogs from the cats :)

Either way.toning just makes some coins and bars sing...
 
These are nothing too spectacular, but I remember what they came in when I bought them.

Depends -- what do you consider as "natural"?

Rainbow toning, for example, can be inadvertent yet not artificial / intentional. Plenty of examples of Morgans out there, which have what's called "bag toning"..

I think it's safe to say that my example from above is not "artificial" -- especially considering NGC (and PCGS) are *usually* correct in determining natural versus artificial toning.. Otherwise, it wouldn't get a numerical grade, but instead a details grade of "Artificial Toning"..

Obviously depends on how a coin is stored, and for how long. Not exactly like they had acrylic air-tites & slabs a hundred years ago for collectors to store their coins in. Heck, not even a few decades ago. Just because you see some pretty colors, doesn't mean it was faked.. ;)



You want to see true artificial? Yeah, I went over to The Dark Side for a couple -- and they're freakin' fantastic, IMO! :D

Yes, there are plenty of toned ASE's out there. Not always all that cheap, though.

Didn't think I still had these. Seller photos. Look even nicer in-hand, with richer colors..
