It is a good looking coin though. A real suntan is better than blotchy fake tanning cream (or whatever the hell it is).
 
Nice Toning on both..The Indian head is particularly striking ..the image has a new persona :) Like the hint of rainbow at his neck and shoulders

This one is not that spectacular, compared to the many toned Perth coin fair medallions I have seen.....[But] she is on its way. ;)

Thank you Maggie for the 45MM Airtite its a snug fit. The first thing people want to do is pick it up. Now they can and i can 'Keep it Toned'!
 
Very nice colour there .What is it about ASE's and toning? I have seen more toned ones of these than any other single bullion.Might reflect the number that have been minted.

Needs a better photo, but here my PCGS MS-64 1887-S toner. Love the "oil slick" colors that dance as the coin is turned.

Most of the ASEs that have toning are done from uneducated storage. With as many as they make and some ending up in hands that place them in places they shouldn't be. The other one is there are lots of coin doctors in the states, a good many of them are known, but they still prey on the newbs on ebay....
 
I have indicated in previous posts in this thread that I suspect some toning to be artificial. Makes no difference to me if it has been for the item per see, though.
The point of the thread is to show the rich and and varied colouration that can be found in silver.

Having said that,I urge all those interested in toned coins /bullion to keep in mind the possible origins of these and not get carried away with the "investment?" potential.
 
If you are placing extra value on a toned coin make sure it is in PCGS or NGC plastic with an honest grade. That will make it more easily markatable when it comes time to sell.

This is a stunning coin... the patina and toning adds depth and character to the engraving... the nicest buffalo I have ever seen. If you ever want to sell it, please let me know... I would carry this coin with me everyday... just a small reminder of my heritage.

I have seen a few toned coins that looked unnatural on ebay so tied to replicate one. I put one in the fire to see what happened. UNC 2 cent so very few containments and a good test. I know plastics react as do other metals.

The underside that was on the ledge of the fire came out really well, you cant see the peacock colours as well as in real life sorry, but its quite remarkable. the other side exposed to oxygen - oxidized to Cupric Oxide and looks like its been in a fire.

The above is only an experiment. And im sure now its how so many coins have have come up for sale so often and only recently that have toned like never before in the history of coins.
 
I'd like to get a consensus regarding the American Silver Eagles and their toning. I'd like to see how they're kept to see if we can narrow it down how they've come to tone like that.

I've kept mine in air-tite capsules and have yet to see toning, however, I haven't kept them in there for long and have only recently put them in the capsules.

To those that have posted pictures of toned ASE's, how do you keep your coins?

My ASE's came to me already toned and in capsules. I suspect mine have been artificially toned ,but could not be sure.
Some of my other toners ,particularly kookaburra's have purple and gold toning. .One of them was in a card mounted in PVC..and it reacted with the mounting producing an even dark purple/magenta hue.
