Absolutely not.

I've known long term poor who have been so through misfortune, or inability to break the poverty cycle.

If you're born into poverty, yes you can become wealthy, but it requires luck, opportunity and ability.

Now it's much easier to go in the opposite direction!

Many are born in to it, most of whom only escape the cycle via luck or the altruism of others. Unfortunately poor people enjoy breeding like rabbits whilst those that can actually afford to be parents are smart enough to not have kids they can't afford to raise.

Agree, but we make our own opportunity...... and ability would be a fit with my above statement.
