Today I found (while detecting)...

Dont write of old buttons especially military. Some are worth a mint. More than a couple of ounces of Silver anyway. Especially the old Brit Regiments that served in Aust. before Federation. They have numbers on them.

Not much to report? Yeah, we all have days like that unfortunately. :D

LMAO .. I started typing a message asking about anyones experience with the Garrett AT Pro, then realised it was off-topic.

Glad that my edit provided someone a smile. As did your reply :)

This seems to be the spot for most detecting stuff and info. Perhaps another thread should be opened for "detector talk" and leave this one more dedicated to photos and chat about finds?

Slightly off topic....found yesterday.

The larger piece weighs 0.45 grams. It is naturally facetted and probably 23.5 karat purity.
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. :)

why is gold found embedded in crystal quartz and nuggets found loose in dirt?

There are many texts and hypothesis on this vexing question that you can refer to. So many wide any varying opinions for you to consider.

Eventually you may find an answer that is suitable for your particular needs.

Way off topic if you dont mind. Go play in some other sandpit instead of rooting around on this very good thread.

"Today I found (while detecting)"... makes no mention regarding origins of the universe or belief systems.

Start your own thread Systematic. Call it "Today I failed (while posting)...".

This makes the forum such an approachable and comfortable place to ask questions and learn for noobs like me.

Why didn't you just say "I don't know".

Thread "Today I didn't fail while trying to be a know-it-all asshole"

If all of you nice people would like to look back up the page you will see a link to a thread that is entirely more suited to the question that was asked.

I am not a Geologist. I am a detectorist.

I could have said that pieces of quartz are airtights for gold and loose nuggets are god being a bit clumsy and dropping them while he was checking out his stash.

I dont know where gold nuggets come from. Alien droppings perhaps?

I should have just said "Erosion".

well since you posted pics of gold in quartz and loose nuggets it would seem reasonable to ask why is it so ... but fear not ... i started my own thread on the subject - if you don't know where nuggets come from - you arent obliged to respond - thats fine by me - because it is not all about you...

Found while detecting In somewhat a slightly wet environment; Unfortunately not found today as the title suggests :/ (but) This Lantaka swivel cannon was recovered from a wrecked Borneo coastal trader. This type of swivel cannon more affectionately known as a rail gun (Because that's where they sat on side rails of ships) can be dated to around the 1700s by the enclosed end caps on the gimble of the swivel. If the caps were open on the gimble it would date more to the 1600s for those that are interested in this type of knowledge.

It is not gold, but it does make up for an interesting find! and is valued @ 1.5 ounces of the fine yella stuff (Sorry not for sale) Enjoy
