Today I found (while detecting)...

Last week I found a huge amount silver I had like a WOOHOO feeling and I started to hump around and running forth and back not sure what to do first and where.
Then I got a deja vu, I checked, and yes it was the stack. But I had been an hour in paradise where the grass was green and the girls were pretty so ohwell.
 
I got this last time i was out detecting. magnified to buggery Gold specimen, 2.5 grams

about an ounce or so the last couple of trips between us. 1/4 oz was the biggest.

Im a fan of the Minelab x-terra 70 and 705. i can tune out most things with it down to a single bar opening. Eliminate things like copper and iron and aluminium. All the stuff that isnt gold. And, just sit in a very small quiet band that targets the size of the gold in the field. if its all similar sized of course. The best thing i can think of is to listen to what your machine is telling you. Any machine. Be on decent ground with sizable gold to start with if you can. Keep the machine quiet And dig lots of targets. We had a chap a few weeks ago with a 20+ year old Whites GMT find his first 4 gram nugget. how cool is that. It does not need to be a big buck detector to find gold really.

failing that and you have a bit to spend the MINELAB SDC 2300 is the most easy to operate detector ever built and is finding plenty of small gold today. Pretty much turn it on and go. Then Garrett ATX. GPX5000 and any SD upwards would be a fantastic start too. All will dig the occasional duffer too.

Finally got my X-Terra 705 and above is my loot from my first run. I haven't read the manual yet so i still have much to learn in regards to discrimination. I found a lot of junk and rubbish so i need to learn to use the different functions.

Hopefully you will be seeing a lot more from me in the coming months ;)

Ahaha good luck trying to prove negligence on the city councils part, first you would need to establish if there's a duty of care and i would think the answer would be no ;)

Maybe try choking on a kinder surprise toy.. seemed to work in the US.
 
Lashed out a couple of months ago on a Minelab CTX 3030 so I can broaden my prospecting horizons.

From using it around 20 times, and still not having my head anywhere near being around its miriad of functions and settings, I can safely say it is an absolute pisser!* (*pisser, in this instance, means extremely good.) The target id and target trace work very well, but I havent customised the preset search menus for fear of blanking out desired targets with similar readouts to ring pulls and bottle tops.

First time in the Goldfields with it I found a 1923 Aust penny. In the same hole were 2 nails, 2 pieces of wire and an enamel tin food plate. The coin gave a solid signal and was 4 inches (10cm) down. Havent found Gold nuggets or jewellery yet but im confident I will one day.

Yesterday (formerly known as today) I had my first go in a local park. Litter galore but managed to find 7 Australian copper coins in 2 hours. In chronologically regressive order they are...

1x 1 cent piece
2x 2 cent pieces
1943 half penny
1940 one penny
1917 half penny
1913 one penny.

Great fun! :)
 
Just wrapped up an evening session in a local park.

1948 sixpence
1921 halfpenny
1923 penny
1919 penny
1872 British penny

$9 of modern coins too. Might shout myself an xmas latte. :D
 
Dug at least 50 bottle tops today.

Also 4 British coins, 1879 and 1896 pennys plus 1888 and 1900 halfpennys. A couple of kangaroo pennys as well so worth the effort. :)

Found a 1922 threepence the other day but I dont think its an overstrike. :(
 
11 pre-dec silver and 15 pennys/halves. 28 grams asw. :D

Yesterday went out bush chasing nuggets and got bugger all. :(
 
Eureka Moments, does metal detecting in the hot summer of Central Victoria bother you? I have a house on 40 acre bush block in Inglewood (Central Vic) that I just use to go to for long weekends/holidays. The weather there is beautiful all year round except for summers. They are stinking hot, usually around 35-40 degrees. And because of that I do NOT go there for holidays in summer. And I can't imagine someone metal detecting for hours on end in that hot weather.

You must be addicted to it.
