I'm not saying your going to loose out by collecting like you do, far from it when you get it at face value.. What i am saying is that the book values are way off and shouldn't even be quoted.. As a dealer i'm sick of telling people that their collections aren't worth what they think because they think book price is gospel.
totally agree with you there!!!!!
or worse yet when they go "its really old so it must be worth heaps!!!"
you then show them book value and they go "no mine is worth more than that"

lol that shit happens to me all the time.. An elderly couple came and seen me last week with a bunch of average circulated pennies, i had a quick look for dates and when there was nothing of numismatic value i said they aren't worth much.. They cracked it at me saying the book says this one is worth $10 that one is $12 so on and so on, at that point i went and grabbed a bag of them from the back, threw it on the table and said buy as many as you want for 20c each, they soon realized they didn't have much.

By the way i have close to 1.5 million average circulated pennies, does anyone have any suggestions what to do with them?

Yes thought about scrapping them but that seems a waste, surely i can find something better to do with them...

you can build mini castles and bridges with them. I do this all the time with the kids when I have a couple of grands worth of change
its great fun
just make sure you wash your hands after.
but srsly ebay them by the kg. you will be surprised what you get

heres my 2 bobs worth the coin and bank note market crashed with the GFC and hasn't recovered. will it recover one day but not holding my breath.

as for that book I bought one once just as a info book as to what's out there. nothing else and that's all it is a reference book and really basic.

so I guess if you are young and have plenty of cash you don't need now is a good time to buy in ?

people got burnt big time and not sure they want to shove the hand back in the fire

4 Consecutive uncirculated 1967 coombs randall $2 notes starting with FND919343 for face value

Ecc where is your coin shop? 1.5 million that is huge.

Thanks Serial & co.
I know very little about note numbers other than consecutive, blocked or radar which is all I really look for.

I would strongly advise that you invest in a copy of Mcdonalds. I say invest because you only have to find one key date and the thing pays for itself. plus it is great to read

Put them for sale on here priced by kilo, no fees unlike ebay and I'm sure you would have some buyers!

Today I found an unusual $1.

It has this on it:

CHOGM 2011 (at the top)
A picture of a globe with all flags round it
Perth, Australia (at the bottom)

Of interest?

Do this:

penny-floor-2.jpg

Actually if you need to shift 1.5 million of them, try it out for yourself (basically just glue them down and cover them with epoxy), write up some instructions and find some interior designers to push "penny floors" as the hot new thing that all the cool people are renovating their houses with.

both hard to find notes but I have a good relationship with some banks and one would let me go through a quarter of a mill at a time in a secure area. unfortunately that had to stop recently due to security concerns :(

:o :o Which bank let you do this?!?!?!

That is a massive compliance breach.

Thinking of going to the bank and ordering a few thousand in $1 & $2 coins.

Is it worth the time sorting?

Yes worth it mate, I have found quite a few keepers doing this over the years.
