Today I Bought...

Important Update - I have just been doing some research on my WW1 medal and read these medals are awarded to a particular soldier,so I put my glasses on and found this written on the rim - 11298 Pte C.H. Keary High.L.I.

Just imagine this medal was awarded to a soldier in the "great war" of the rank of Private over 100 years ago,wow :)

Suffice to say the medal is NO longer for sale as advertised.

I am contacting the war museum in Canberra today seeking some advice.

It is my full intention to return this WW1 service medal to his family.

As more information comes to light I will post it hear :D

I phoned the Australian War Museum in Canberra this afternoon and was sent a link with 6 - 8 other Australian links about the service history of Australians at war which delivered no hits :(

I was a bit disappointed when I was told the War Museum does not reconnect lost medals with family members,a bit strange I thought

I started to think that the acronym on the medal - High.L.I. - might be Scottish e.g. Highlanders so I contacted a British medal shop that looked pretty extensive via an email,I am hoping when I wake up tomorrow morning there will be something concrete for me.

Until then :)

Thanks Flyinfree :)

The medal on the left won't open for me so I cannot check, and the right one is a different number than you have on the thumbnail although both thumbnails are the same as seen being - 11298

The medal on the thumbnail on the right is a different number than the medal from what I can see.

Keep trying :D

Ok, please see this one.

I have another number "10279 Pte W. J. Humphries Wilts R" as well. Same medal.

Exciting Development :D

I have just contacted the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Highlanders Light Infantry have been put under their authority 60 yrs ago,I was also directed to the Royal Regiment of Scotlands Museum to the attention of the curator.

I sent an email with photo's of the front and back and most importantly the rim with Private C.H. Leary's details on it.

So now we wait, definitely more to follow.

I am a little excited :)

P.S. finally I might get to do that Tour of Duty I had always wanted

This beautiful 2 oz Libertad. The design is so much nicer on the larger 2 oz coin. The flash makes it look like there is some toning or something around the edges, but there is not. Such a beautiful coin.

Did u also get the 5 oz? The premium is a little more than what I usually pay for so I'm hesitating on getting it.

No, I didn't, but I am liking the 2 oz so much I might go back to Bullion Star tomorrow and get the 5 oz before I fly out of Changi. Just need to find a way to protect it, I found a tiny mark on my 2 oz already which is my fault for how I carried it out of the shop.

a few quick pics of some of the medals
you have a commanders medal of the Order of the Liberator General San Martin,
Kingdom of the Netherlands: Order of Oranje-Nassau
- officer
The Order of the Dannebrog Commander 1st Class
Order of Brilliant Star - rant 4 special cravat
and more!

Did you get a bubble pack from them? They don't sell fitting capsules. I got my airtite QB capsules from goldheartbullion.

I bought capsules for all the 1 oz coins I bought at the same time. Then I stupidly put the 2 oz Libertad in the same bubble pack as the 1 oz coins in capsules and walked around for an hour. Now there is a scratch on the Libertad the exact shape and size as one of the 1 oz capsules. Silly silly me.

Further Development - I have just heard back from the curator of the Royal Regiment of Scotland Museum and it wasn't the right place :( but no worries because he sent me the correct link to the Royal Highlander Fusiliers Museum in Glasgow :D

I think I am very close now to getting a lead to Pte C.H. Leary who's medal I am holding from the great war,WW1.

I will draft my email tomorrow expecting a fantastic reply :)

When I get my reply I will post again.

I got these for the 1 oz gold coins - https://www.goldheartbullion.com/Product/Air_Tite_Protective_Coin_Casing_32_mm

Didn't notice the Heraeus bar last year when I was there. The Heraeus kilo is really expensive, cost more than pamp. Not sure why the premium. Nowadays, it's possible to buy Lunars and Kooks at this kind of premium. But I bought some 10oz and 5oz Heraeus bars. For some reason, the 5 and 10 oz silver bars no longer appear on Heraeous's website.
