Today I bought.... "Panda Style"

I don't really have the budget to go big right away so I start out small 
Baby 1/20th oz 1988 Gold Panda, looks to be in good shape (capsule not in the best shape) unfortunately not omp.
Same goes for this 1998 I picked up. Capsule cracked but not trough the plastic.
Can any of you experts say if I stepped on a landmine and it's fake or does it look kosher to you?

Pagodas have dropped from $25,000 a set of four to what, under $8000. Plus NGC keeps delaying their statement on authenticity...for months and months now-meaning industry experts dont know what the heck is going on.
Basically noone wants to touch Pagodas, they are virtually worthless. The person on othe other side of JCs trade might have won this trade.
Either NGC has been certifying silver plated as silver or someone dropped a couple of zeros off the mintage number and its 26,000 mintage. Because if you check the NGC registry, these contentious Pagodas have more graded than MCCs with mintages in the thousands. Truly rare coins dont sit around on ebay unsold for months and months for want of a couple of thousand bucks .

1. I believe 1984 is an interesting year for Shanghai Mint, so do all the coins/medals they minted that year. Though being interesting doesn't means it is more valuable.
2. 1984 35th anniversary of PRC proof set minted by Shanghai Mint is currently selling for say, around US$6000 - $10000. Currently 50 sets were known to exist. They were discovered in 2007. No official confirmation from Shanghai Mint relating to mintage. This set is highly sought after by the China regular circulation proof coins collectors.
I believe the PF69 pagoda set shouldn't be valued for higher than the 35th anniversary set. In fact, it should be valued much lower.
People always talk about culturally significant. IMHO, all thing being equal, I think being historically significant is a lot more important than being culturally significant, and that is where the value being derived from.
Anytime the Mint (or perhaps, just anyone with right contact with the Mint) can produce culturally significant coins anytime they feel like. Historically significance come way long after the coins were minted. It comes with unique stories that can never be replicated.
A coin with unique story is the one that sells.
