Not my first Engels coin, but my first GDR coin.
 
Crossed over to the dark side this a.m.! It happened during a moment of weakness during the wee hours...purchased my first ounce of gold (I have been solely a silver stacker thus far)...paid a 28% premium to the spot price of gold, but that includes all-in costs (shipping, /handling, CDN/US exchange rate, wire transfer costs)...but this lady is worth her weight in gold...a 2008 Gold proof Libertad (mintage 500)..eagerly anticipating her arrival!!

2013 1 oz Gold Mexican Libertad - Proof from APMEX...hefty 35% premium at $1727.30 US plus S and H and bank wire fee , but I figure that the low mintage of just 400 makes up for it. (Key Date is 2005 at 250 ).
Will post photo of this along with my 2008 1 oz gold proof when it arrives.

p.s. the 2008 did have a few "hairline" scratches , but I kept it anyway

Herakles-type Tetradrachm Coins of Alexander

Tetradrachms are large silver coins. Most weight about 17 grams and measure about 24 to 30 mm diameter. are about the diameter of a US $.50 but twice as thick. Alexander's tetradrachms features Alexander's portrait as Herakles (same as Roman Hercules). He is wearing a Lion Skin. The Lion Skin is from the Nemeaen Lion killed by Herakles with his bare hands. The reverse scene is Zeus, seated, holding an eagle in his outstretched hand and a legend bearing his name in Greek.

When Alexander conquered territories, he looted the conquered kingdom's precious metals, gold and silver (i.e., plunder). He, and his successors, minted coins in his name with that plunder. These coins are the plunder of Alexander the Great.

Earlier this week I received my recently purchased (from APMEX) 2008 1oz Proof Gold Libertad (mintage 500). Has a few "hairline" scratches and I think that it might need a bit of cleaning. In a few of the photos the coin looks as if it is silver...I apologize in advance for not the best quality photos as I am totally new to photography and thus was experimenting with indoor vs outdoor lighting and the lighting "colour bar" on the camera screen, and also limited by my $100 digital camera in terms of doing closeups etc..Should receive the 2013 1 oz gold proof liberatad (mintage 400) next week

These are some weird composition I think, 62.5% silver ?

But it doesn't matter if you have the proof version, Engels proof costs thousands of dollars!

Ten 5oz Silver Proof Freedom Girl coins. Great deal at only $159 CDN apiece. I was inspired after reading some posts by the sculptress of the coin, on a thread on another forum.
The same coins were on the SD Bullion website (US make/distributor) 1 week ago and listed at ~$20 CDN higher , but listed as sold out. I figure the Canadian distributor must have purchased the coin when the value of the $CDN was closer to par with the $US. Either that, or the coin was not selling well in Canada (or at least on their site). In any event, the coin is listed on SD Bullion today at $242, and still sold out.

I've made 9 or 10 separate purchases from the Canadian company that I again used for Freedom Girl. This is the description accompanying the coin on their website:
