Agree with finicky on this one. The coins look totally cartoonish; so much so, a 3 year old could have rendered them. Even the 2012 looked average. In fact, if I ever had to sell any of my coins, the 2012 would be the first, followed by the 2013 (which I'm still waiting on). So why buy them? Probably just to make up the set, but that doesn't mean one feels a sense of awe or inspiration by simply owning them.

Please do better PM. And if you need to solicit people on this website to help you along (as noble and self-deprecating as that may be), we're in real trouble (not to say it wouldn't work or that people don't have the skills, it makes me wonder why professionals can't submit something that pops out at you. And then there's the question of why that submission made the final cut).

Agree with GP bit harsh.
Maybe if you don't like the coins, buy bars.
As the saying goes SILVER IS SILVER.
Or maybe
One in the hand is worth two in the bush. Or is that pineapple patch. :)
 
I would have preferred more detail, but it is a nice change of pace from the other kooks. I bought a few because the premium was lower than most yearly design change silver coins and I could see this design being popular with children.
 
Don't intend adding the 2013 kook to my collection.
Trying to imagine the thoughts of the early series designers when looking at what they produced compared to now
 
Similar style to Royal Silver and Gual Metals Trust stuff.

I saw the 1oz 2013 kook today for the first time. Each to their own. However, I think it's the best kook to date by a wide margin. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I think the real problem is , that for the last two years the official release photo's do the actual coin no justice .
I remember the same thing happened last year with the kook & koala :D
The coins actually look much better in the hand the first release photos ;)
 
is it the design or mintage that sux :)

i think its a nice looking coin in fact i liked it so much i brought the company

I think the ugliest thing about the 2013 Kook is the 1,000,000 mintage figure, should have always kept the cap at 300,000
 
agree ^^^^^^i think last year was such a boom year that the mint got caught up in dragon fever more than anyone else now they believe their own bullsh$t and that's the ugly part
 
Perth are proud of their new design but will it have numismatic value in the years to come?

One thing we can be assured, if Perth don't sell 1,000,000 coins this year, they will re-strike the coin until they do.

For me, I'll be buying bullion that doesn't have a mintage limit; I was looking forward to the 2oz Kook but since Perth stated on their Blog that they won't be minting the 2oz, I don't see the point in buying limited mintage (1,000,000) 1oz coins.

Having said that, I hope Perth do sell-out the 1oz 2013 Kook, atleast then, the market has some kind of reference point.

For me, it's not so much a problem with the limited mintage, just that the potential for Perth to remint is a proven fact.

The coins are selling on Ebay for between $41.55 (11 Sep 2012) to $45.70 (17 Sep 2012)

Other major coin dealers (Perth mint distributors) from $39, Perth selling for 43.01 (Close of trade 17 Sep 2012)

And...I do like the design.
