person I know took some foreign gold coins to get tested(xrf) at the mint and was told they wont do that as they were not made here in Australia and better take it to a coin dealer  person had no intention to sell the coins to them but i assume if had it would not have been a problem for the mint to get the coins tested.... is that a common thing(no help) at the mint or it was just a one off?

would someone from Perth mint would care to explain why did they refuse to test a coin? it kind of tells me they(the mint) dont really care if any counterfeit foreign coins are floating on the market....

No surprises there cos it isn't their business to do so.

Same for dealers or pawn shops here who won't test coins unless you're selling to them. Otherwise they would charge you for testing the coins.

What does the PM get out of testing coins they can't buy?

Go down the road to ABC Bullion, I'm sure they'll help out.

guys, its called customer service. how many times did u walk into any store and did not buy anything? was there any staff member who said "im sorry I cannot help or better yet "I wont help u,go somewhere else".... and the mint did know that the person did not have any intention to sell the coins...btw,I called perth bullion and they offered their service to test any coins.....

Firstly, the machines are not hookup to any printer.
If you ask the right question, I am sure they will be glady to test them.

Perth Mint & Perth Bullion have been very helpful over the years.
Well it depend on which day too. Weekend at the Mint are the best , lesser customers
You will get better services.

charging a fee is not a problem...go somewhere else attitude is the problem

Unlike a local coin shop, the Perth Mint gets around 80,000 tourists a year + locals walking in. Having staff tied up doing freebie checks when a bunch of tourists come in from the exhibition to buy high margin jewellery doesn't make sense. Plus we've had people complain about lines at the bullion counter which can extend into the jewellery showroom, which hampers jewellery sales.

So unfortunately yes the bullion staff are probably trying to get deals done quicky. No excuse for them being rude about it, just trying to explain the difference between the Mint and a local shop who maybe has the time to offer freebie services
