I was speaking a movie producer today ,that I've know for nearly 30 years .

CD/DVD manufacturing plant !
THE DVD /CD are dead .
Warner Bros have stopped producing hard copies & the rest are going to follow next year.
It's going to be ALL DOWNLOADS only soon .
It costs 25c to produce a DVD blank
$2.50 for a printed & burnt & packaged DVD .
So buy that DVD manufacturing plant now ,sit on it for 10 years ,& DVD's will be retro again by than .

I don't think so - there will always be a group of people who want a hard copy. The record was supposed to bite the dust. There are more records produced now than have been in the last 15 years.

But new releases will no longer be released on hard copy & that includes music as well .

Just found out on Friday. $2500 satellite gift.




Now i just need to get the electricity on to power it......

Would not be surprised to see DVD phased out as Bluray takes dominance (maybe they will retain the dual disc for those who still have DVD players only), but I very much doubt music CDs or movie blurays will be phased out by the end of next year...

Especially Blurays, to download a 1080p movie you are looking at 8-10Gb+ usually and I imagine 3d Blurays are even larger in file size. Australia and many other countries simply would not have appropriate internet plans (at a reasonable cost to most) to cope with these being a regular download...

There will always be hardcopies available, but eventually all data will be stored volatile, and the only 'hardcopies' floating about will be in cloud nine. Prepare yourself for the day when computers will no longer have a place in the home, but rather a keyboard and mouse with internet access to cloud. Then augmentation. Then the matrix. Followed by your end.

There will always be them annoying Sarah and John Connors out there, trying to distribute data on USBs, Vinyls, CDs, DVDs et cetera. However, these scums will be swiftly dealt with.

Not even a Faraday Cage will save your biscuits.

So far to date, the most surest way of storing data in modern times, all without being affected by remote wiping or EMI, whilst being cost effective for the average, is on Vinyl Records. Only revert to playing it when you need to reload restore, and I am not limiting to sound.
Everything else is biscuits.
