The gold coin picture thread.

I believe the 1935 with L 1935 B either side of the date are re-strikes. Can someone with greater knowledge confirm this for me please. Beautiful bunch of coins. vangbac.

Just received this today. 1980 proof 1/2 Sov. 157.00. was this a good buy or to much thoughts please.

I think I can help here regarding those swiss coins ... ;)

They are called "Vreneli", named after the girl / woman on one side of the coin. Vreneli is more or less a nice way to say Verena, a female name. The coin is 900/1000, quite popular and well known around central europe. You can get 'em in every well sorted PM - Shop. They are als also still legal tender in Switzerland and "worth" the 20 Franken face value.

The " 1935 L " - Version was minted from 1945 - 1947. The story here was that although the swiss mint stopped issuing the Vreneli in 1935 ( the gold price exceded the face value in Franken at that time ) the Swiss gouvernment aquired a lot of Gold from Nazi - Germany before and during the war in exchange for other goods Germany couldn't get through trade with the allies and other neutral countries anymore. After the war ended Switzerland was "criticized" and pressured a lot from other countries for acquiring that Nazi - Gold and therefore started to kind of get rid of it through issuing the Vrenelis again and selling it to the public. In the end they minted a total of about 20 million of those " 1935 L " - versions.

Not a new purchase, but a friend was over trying out her new camera (Olympus E-PL1 I think), so we threw it on the tripod and popped this under the lightbox. Normally they're in the vault but I had a new catalog book so I brought a few coins home to play with.

Just standard settings I think.

Any additions guys? I love this thread :)

I picked up something interesting... Will post pics when it arrives!

My lack of photo skills doesn't do this coin justice. The muscle tone on the animal is amazing. Pending trade, so snapping this before it goes away...

null now you are going to make me covet one of those coins. :) Does anyone know the market value of that S1 gold coin vs. the other S1 gold coins (excluding the dragon)?

But wouldn't PAMP gold bars be a better investment for when SHTF? You're confusing me mate.

LOL I 'never' can, it seems. It's okay, Thucy's rofl

Do all gold coin purchases have to be for SHTF scenarios? Not to say they aren't, but the question still remains.
