I was having a chuckle at the old window tax etc, when I heard on BBC that the UK are bringing in a bedroom tax

Not quite right. The plan was to reduce Council house tenants' benefits if they had one or more spare bedrooms in their house. The plan is being revised however.

That was a big expose on entitlement. People in public/council housing with surplus bedrooms while the waiting list to get a council house at all is years. The plan was to encourage them into smaller council homes and let larger families into the larger houses. And if they refused, they got less welfare.
But the UK TV news found lots of people who bleated about being forced out of 'their' homes or having 'their' money taken away. But it's all welfare. Nothing discussed was theirs in the first place! The best one I saw was a pair of empty nesters whose children were grown up and moved out. Their indignation at being asked to move "when I raised my children here, all my memories are here." My heart bleeds but it would bleed more if it was your house. It isn't! And rightly or wrongly since it's all welfare you're robbing another family of the same opportunity for such memories.
Back to the OP - great video. Even just for the tally on how much of an average salary goes to tax, and left the door open on indirect taxes because they are too difficult to quantify.

That reminds me of when a relative was building a duplex. The council wanted a special contribution based on the number of bedrooms (something to do with high density dwelling?), so I told the builder to change one bedroom into a study. He didn't think it would work, but the council never said a thing, and the fee went from $8K down to $4K.

yes, the UK has a long and proud tradition of stealing from the populace through the most ingeniously thought out series of tax laws the world has ever seen!
Australia is a chip of the old block ... and i believe it may even surpass the "mother country" in terms of its governments ability to separate citizens from their cash as well as all other assets they may think they possess lol

Just sent a link to this video to my local LNP candidate and said we'll be watching very carefully what direction the party moves after gaining power in september...

Tax is the levy they impose to further the ambitions of the various aristocrats and to feed their clans. The 'Emperor' and court are the figureheads. The Mandarins control the business.
It has nothing to do with the well-being of the population.
That is just a by-product if and when it occurs.

Hence why the US has the 2nd amendment as part of its Bill of Rights. It recognises that their government (like all governments) can go rogue and overstep their role and for this very reason - most if not all citizens should be armed, able and ready to form militia which can protect themselves from government goons dressed in uniform.
The 2nd amendment is a thing of beauty and is conspicuous by its absence here in Australia, where only the bad guys are allowed to carry guns.
Hence our high rate of violent crime ... much like the UK - whose rate of violent crime is THREE TIMES that in the US since they (UK) also disarmed their (good) population - thereby ensuring that only the bad guys carry guns.
Not that they always need guns mind you - they can simply gang up on innocent people and bash their brains out, or stab them, or whatever... all easy pickings now of course that the government has disarmed all the good guys.
