Anyone remember the few weeks hiatus between the election and the lab/green/ind government? All sides all were too busy arguing amongst themselves to interfere with our lives.
I remember feeling relaxed that the next day wasn't going to bring about some new bizarre u-turn policy that would require me to reevaluate some part of my life.
I honestly think that the politicians don't realise that all their yahooing and point-scoring actually has a tangible effect on the everyday lives of millions of people.

I'd also like to say at this point (and stress, this is only my opinion), that whilst I "thanked" Dickmojo's post above, I was a little quick in doing so - I had read the bulk of the post (which I agree with), but missed the last paragraph. Without wishing to raise ill feelings, my opinion is that a "personal attack" like that, is - to my mind, a bit out of line, and wish to record that my "thanks" on that post does NOT endorse the final paragraph. I think we're all adult enough here to debate issues based on facts, and whether we agree or disagree, we still respect each others' right to hold opinions, values and ideals that may differ from our own.

Big A.D.'s alright~ my personal attack on him wasn't vindictive.
I actually just last weekend saw an old friend of mine whom I had been tight with for over 10 years. We were a group of friends and this guy was undisputably the leader, we were all intellectually very like-minded, and we still all have a lot of respect for each other.
But three years ago this guy moved to Melbourne, to do his Honours and Masters at some big Uni down there or whatever. Now, this guy who was so close to me, who I shared so many ideologies in common with, is now a rock hard, dyed in the wool, Max Brenner boycotting, Baida chicken factory picketing socialist.
Its astonishing to me because I diverged intellectually in the exact opposite direction, yet we were so close for 10 years, and in the space of the last 3 years we've become exact opposites.
But he's still like a bro to me, and I'll never stop respecting him or his intellect, which is towering. But I just think his ideology is wrong. But we need to have a contest of ideas anyway, in order to have a vigourous society, so its all cool.

You really couldn't make this shit up . It is as if they have deliberately set out to ruin this country in as short a time as possible . Out of their depth would have to be the biggest understatement I have seen written about this bunch of Cee U Next Tuesday 'S ever.
$100.000.000 a day in interest is what this genius of fiscal policy is costing us as a nation at the moment, they can bleat all they like about lower tax revenue but that is the cost just in interest alone. A smart person would not go on a spending spree and waste billions in the first place , a smart person would not want to damage the one thing keeping our head above water or burden the taxpayers with yet more taxes.
Supporting a bunch of miscreants such as this is a form of masochism , they have no credentials at all , most have spent their lives sucking at the teat of others in one way or another , the whole front bench has less than twenty years of actual real world business experience between them.
Comparing Australia to the rest of the world is all well and good but it was not Swan, Gilliard or Rudd that got us to where we are today in comparison , it was the kitty in the bank left behind by Howard and Costello and the payment of the former Hawk and Keating Govt's Debt that saw us thru the last GFC. That took ten years to payoff and was a mere $96 billion.
Thinking anything else is delusional, the only thing left now is a lowering of interest rates to cushion the blow and of course more borrowing, more debt more interest and self funded retirees losing what they have worked a lifetime for as a result .
Socialism is all well and good until you run out of other peoples money, this lot makes me sick to my stomach it will be many years before Australia if ever becomes anything close to as strong as it was a few short years ago.

Nope, nothing will change. Normalcy bias has already ensured that in this country, the populace will turn on itself LONG before it turns on the political leaders.

If it gets so bad that people are in the streets with placards to face tear gas and rubber bullets your 'elected' masters already have in place all the enforcement and legal means necessary to quell your so called 'revolution'.
As Han Solo would say 'laugh it up Fuzzball' because this is the nature of the environment that this country voted for and supported collectively to where it is now and like a roo in headlights, they're stunned into non action whilst they get mowed down by the owners of the country.
All I can say is eat shit. This country deserves everything it's got coming to it.

Auspm don't forget you live in this country so if this country eats shit you'll probably ending up eating some too as collateral damage. So I'm not sure if hoping for the downfall of others is a good idea if it hurts you too.
For example at work let's say you have a dickhead boss who sucks at his job and you are awesome at your job. Due to the company doing well he gets a 50% pay increase (He takes credit for your good work. Besides when your on the gravy train performance becomes irrelevant) and you get a 20% pay increase. Although unfair isn't it better than if the company does badly and you get a 20% pay cut and your boss gets a 50% pay cut. The second option is fairer but leaves you worse off.
Do you see my point that it's not necessarily wise to look forward to the country eating dirt as a sinking ship will drag you down to some extent even though your relative position will improve your absolute position will drop?

I am already supporting god knows how many useless scum out there. I'm ALREADY on the bottom rung in this society paying all the tax for others to do nothing and reap the rewards of MY efforts and others in the same position as I am in.
I'm self sufficient, responsible, hard working and capable. I take nothing from the public purse getting zero hand outs, but contribute enough to support several families per year in lost taxes.
ie I'm already 'on my own' mate and learned the hard way how to survive. Can you say the same of half the useless crap we have in this society?
If you're trying to appeal to a sense of fear in me that I should shut up and maintain the status quo because it might hurt me as well to see sweeping changes, then you're sorely mistaken.
If the country goes to hell and people are forced to scramble to play catch up mate, I'm pretty confident I'll do okay.
