Buy it, you can return it for your money back. eBay gets criticized for many reasons, all deservedly so, but one thing you can count on is getting a refund. I would but it in a heartbeat if he delivered to the States. Nothing to lose really, something to gain possibly.

Be careful with that. I did a websearch and found this forum entry (in german) http://39696.dynamicboard.de/t1558f82-Dosenoeffner-Goldbarren-Coca-Cola-was-wert.html which states that this is only a bottle opener - an advertising gift, distributed by Coca Cola, but maybe also by other companies. It might be plated with gold/silver, which would explain the postive acid test (since it only tests the surface), but I'd bet that when you saw it into two halves, you'll see what everybody can imagine: No company is distributing 5 ounces of precious metal as a gift...
Probably 99.9% right. Unless it was a while back and it was only 60-70 bucks worth of metal. Were they something the general public could buy or gifts from Coke to big-wigs somewhere?Silber said:

Big wig as you say would be disappointed in the ability of soft metal to act as this thing is designed to do.
I say not displaying the side inscription speaks for itself.
Unless you are a bottle opener collector I would stay away.
Hit this thing with a hammer and it will not bend it will crack just like the cast it is.
Best save your limited paypal claims for when really needed.

While it is a dodgy auction, the item you display and the item he displays are not the same.
I'm almost certain the one he is auctioning is not made by coca-cola and hence would not have the logo on the side.

Forgive my ignorance, but why are casting marks proof of fakeness? If it is cast it could still be silver/gold right?
Certainly looks like casting marks to me, the finish on the hollowed side looks like aluminium.
I wouldn't buy it regardless - why would something be stamped 999 if it's "both silver and gold"? Doesn't make sense, so smells bogus.

If it was 999 silver, it would strip the first time you tried to use it.
"Ges Getch" is an early West German verion of what we would stamp as "trademark". Was found on early military badges before being replace with "RZM" (Reichszeugmeisterei), but is still in use and has similar implictions to "patent pending".. Almost certainly made from a similar metal as a badge, and plated. The casting marks are a bit of a giveaway....
