Having trouble visualising that one, sorry.

Point is - store metal at home, and it's susceptible to loss, whether it's flood, fire, theft, naughty kids or a moment of forgetfulness. Particularly if you're stashing things in "plain sight" - there's a trend forming where it gets thrown out by mistake :/

Well - that's kind of the point isn't it - you're far more likely to lose your PMs through misadventure if you CAN hold it.

Clawhammer said:Sure are plenty of stupid people out there throwing away their jewelry. My Boss (knowing I follow PM's) enthusiastically told me he & his wife took some old gold jewelry into a goldbuyers on the weekend and got $19 per gramme for their gold.
I looked at him blankly (he's a really bright guy, but sometimes does some astronomically stupid things). Rather than chastise him I just showed him yesterday's gold spot price of $55/gm!

Bolted-down safes can get ripped out of walls and floors if thieves are determined enough, or you can get robbed. There was the story of a Canadian man who lost $715k worth of PM in a home invasion in Feb this year I think, where 3 burglars tied him up and forced him to open his safe.
Really there's no perfect solution. You can bury it or hide it but then it can easily be forgotten or misplaced. Telling other family members can help reduce that risk but then word can spread that you've got PM at home or elsewhere. Even storing my PM at GV in Melb carries some counterparty risk (albeit extremely low) since I need to travel 1hr to access it & it's in the middle of the CBD.
