Storage Advice

I have been collecting silver for about a year, or less, so I am still new to this.

I know that many people buy 20-25 rounds at a time and put them in tubes and that's how you store them.
However, I usually buy much less at a time and like to put most of my silver in air-tites.

So, like I mentioned.. I have been collecting for about a year and have a lot of rounds in air-tites and have been really thinking about the best way to store them. I just don't wanna throw them all in a box. I can't put them in tubes, can I? Is there a special case that can store coins already in a capsule?

Any info can really help. How do you guys store your air-tites?

since your coins are already in air-tites, just get the air-tite tubes to store your coins.

Your coins will stack neatly in a tube. ;)

If they're rounds then encapsulating can be become unnecessarily expensive. If they're generic rounds I wouldn't bother but each to their own. Try these guys- http://stores.ebay.com/Valley-Coin/Air-Tite-Coin-Holders-/_i.html?_fsub=172666017 or PB if you're in Aus- http://www.perthbullion.com/shop/detail/ctct/

That's true House. I only put like special silver in capsules, like series' or the ones a bit higher in premium. Like recently I purchased the 6 Canadian Wildlife series.
Or I like to buy several round of one year, cap a couple, and keep the rest for the stack.
Plus, all the Kooks, Pandas, and Koala's come in mint capsules already.

But thanks for the help!

Wow. That seems all obvious. I can't believe I haven't come across this! This is awesome!
I can put like all the countries in the same tube. One for maple leafs, one for Kooks, one for Pandas, one for ASE's.

Thanks!

For pandas the mint capsule is domed-shaped so they wobble in the tube when they are stacked together. For the air-tite H tube you can store 20 air-tite capsules in it, but only 18-19 silver panda coins. The H tube fits kook/koala in their original Perth Mint capsule, silver pandas in mint capsule, and normal direct-fit air-tite capsules.

If you have Perth Mint lunars you will need to get the I-tube (with larger diameter).

i came across some new fishing tackle boxes a while ago

which came in handy for 1 oz silver rounds

holds about 215 1 oz coins

What brand are they?

Are they Plano?

Great idea :)

I think those tubes from #4 are the best solution. I coincidently received some rounds in such one, hadn't seen these / wasn't aware of their existence, before.
That tackle box wastes alot space due to its array-like ordering.
You can fit quite some more tubes in a same space.
And the same also causes the benefit that they leave much less room for (potentially harmful) air/dust
Those tubes also aren't hard plastic, they look like the same cheap plastic that is used for alot common things, so may be quite cost effective here.
I don't know though if they're made from pvc, which would be a no for silver.

Lol!
What the hell?
They sell here 500 plastic straps in such a plastic tube, but much larger, for 3.50 euro total!

It illustrates the problem, one should use methods that weren't ment to store silver coins.
For ex, there is a family member that uses calcium tablets, and I started to snip away the empty tubes, as my halfdollars fit in them.
Price: < 0 because a waste bag here costs 1 euro.

Depends. on whether or not the rods fixings can carry the curtain and the coins.
You'll see. :D

Hmm I just put mine in the curtain rod.... is that not a good idea?

Hahaha. At the time being I use the same make-shift storage unit, which is why I posted ideas here.
I use one of those tubes architects keep their blueprints in. It works, but isn't quite practical.

As mentioned above, I think the air tite tubes are the best. I like the tackle box idea but wouldn't that only be able to store coins the diameter of a Kook in a capsule?
Anything else seems like it would move around. Or are their tackle boxes with different sizes. I'm sorry, I don't fish haha.
