It's not about offending anybody's sensibilities - it's about protecting the privacy of *all* members by mitigating the likelihood of an information request. Take offence all you like.

Obtaining firearms for personal protection in Australia is prohibited in every state, period.

An Australian police agency has previously sought information from this forum, and it was declined. The entire database was requested, to "preserve the evidence" related to a single thread. As the request was informal, no further action eventuated. But a request has been made before.

They want the whole data base because they're concerned about one thread - yeah right.

Just FYI, traffic cameras in Vic do not record footage, can't vouch for anything on a toll road or another state though, perhaps someone else can add more information?

So that whole look at the traffic cam thing you see on NCIS, etc doesn't work here. (I'm not sure if it even works there...)

As a minimum, if you are going to keep what you consider a "large" amount of bullion at home (large for me is different to large for a multi-millionaire) I would have:

a) alarm system;
b) a safe that is either bolted to your floor or in excess of 200kgs (so it cant be lifted).

Having both of these will stop 90%+ of would-be thieves.
 
Sorry to hear :-( I hope karma exists and you get your stash back. I'd be considering that PI that RD mentioned if you have some suspicions who it was. Good luck mate.
 
I reckon a safe will only slow down a determined thief, even if it is bolted down. I have a bank deposit box - for now.
 
Not the case here I realise, but I often see particularly new members, running of at the mouth. Re their holdings.

Fair chance though the thieves will sell them off, they wouldn't be that way inclined to 'stack'. Needs the fiat to buy drugs, fritter away etc.

Anyone everheard a story of recovery out of interest?
 
The worst part is given enough time, and once it's gone through a few hands, it could unknowingly end up in a SS member's stack.

I'd hate to think part of my stack was once stolen.
 
Almost all of it I believe. I know people who know exactly how much, but not everything can be divulged on a public forum.
