As for sideways, silver was $27.5oz 2 years ago to this day, as low as $18 in November last year and is now just over $20.
Your definition of sideways is very flawed. You can't pick a point in the past that suits you and draw a straight line to the present and claim "sideways" - the roller coaster in the middle is just as important.
