Sterling Silver Advice Please!

Hey gang,

My girlfriend needs some cash and she has a few sterling silver items. Would it be best to just go to a random jeweler to get said items appraised or is there a member on here that is a dealer that lives in Melbourne that I could get on honest appraisal from? I can't attach pictures, but if you would like a rough description:

- A small 925 silver (marked) teddy bear with a small ruby in the middle of its bow. Not solid (kind of hollowed out at the back). People apparently collect them.
- A solid 925 silver (marked) bracelet. Engraved on the inside (can engraving be buffed out?)
- Solid 925 silver (marked) ring with small diamond.

A rough approximation would be greatly appreciated. Or happy to travel to one of you if you do appraise such things.

Thanks guys!

Unless it's vintage jewelry ,dealers will only pay scrap weight & nothing for the stones,
I've sold a few necklaces & bracelets here for $2 a gram
Post pics please

Sounds like your best bet is the scrap dealer. Diamonds in silver jewelry are rarely genuine, or if they are they are too small to attract $$.

As CK says is very unlikely that the stones (diamond and ruby) are genuine as they are very rarely set in silver but you can ask a jeweller.
The sterling silver to most jewellers will only be valued by weight of silver it contains not for value as a jewellery item. I have seen heaps of old sterling silver rings and bracelets being sold in batches basically for scrap price on Ebay.
You could try putting pictures on here with weights of items.

If she held onto the items they may be worth more in the future for silver content as silver will eventually be worth a lot more than it is now.
