They're available from November but pre-orders are taken now.

As a Star Wars fan and a silver stacker, I am salivating over these. I definitely want them, may just get the 1oz'ers though.

LOL. Like trading cards for grown ups.

10 years ago I would have been all over these, I'll be giving it a pass.

Just ordered 4 sets for total of $1800 NZ approx. Be interesting to see if Aust customs tries to get money out of me ie over $1000 threshold. And yet these are bullion coins at 99.999% silver. Any thoughts from those who regularly swap, sell between NZ and Australia?

If they hadn't brought out the last three (first three) films I wouldn't even think twice before getting a set of these, now...meh! I am over it.

I don't object to them but I think the first set was around $400-$500, for that price I can buy some silver rounds and some more Star Wars collector stickers and still have plenty of money left over, in fact, for that price I can buy some lunar dragons and apply the stickers on top.

Plus I don't have an album big enough to store the cases.

just make sure you don't buy the individual "coins sold separately" - silver plated base metal coins

oy.. so many conflicting emotions, as a stacker its over priced, but as a star wars nerd its too hard to pass up!!

Anyone in Canada order form NZmint before? How are the shipping costs?

Ha. My son would pay twice as much for these if he had the money or new about them (perhaps a birthday idea). Me thinks that there are many Star Wars die hards the same who will pay what ever it costs. If it is a one off run and given the generations of kids sucked into the Star Wars franchise anything is possible. Have you checked out the price of the old toys still in original packaging. Can't believe mum threw them out instead of keeping them for 30years. What was she thinking???

My partner liked these coins, but the close-up shows "Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM" plastered on it and that put him off!

I just rang the NZ mint. Had previously ordered 4 sets (just short of $2000 NZ worth). Asked them to split the order in terms of mailing so that no fool at Australian customs tries to hold up the order without me paying tax for being over $1000 worth. No problems. Order split now at no extra cost.

Interestingly the NZ girl I was talking to indicated that Australians had taken up this order in the majority so far. Also that the mint promotions fellow has just got back from the US (some coin fare) and it is generating a lot of enthusiasm. The mint have been taken aback with the popularity of this first series and it would seem are about to do a take on all orders to ensure they are not being oversubscribed.

Think it might be a good set in terms of numismatic value. So as a stacker, I'm shying off from them. As a numismatic collector, I've gotten 4 sets and may get a few more. :) Got my feet in both camps!

Do you think there is some New Zealand precious metals forum where all the users are complaining about the majority of these sets being sold to foreign buyers (ala the Dragon here)?? :D

Good idea splitting the orders to avoid the tax, good thing they look after you like that.

I have been contemplating these sets... but then I look at my Transformer coins from 2009 that were supposed to do well also

I think the Star Wars geeks far outnumber the Transformer geeks. :)

If you are a Star Wars nerd just buy a couple of figures. Much cheaper and you can play with them for added bonus. :)

imo, the only good reason to buy these is if you think they might go up in value.

The novelty value of having something like this passes and then you wonder why you paid so much. It was like that for me with the Mayan coins. Oohh, these are nice. Now they are just sitting doing nothing.

I'll pass.

I used my neighbour as a fairweather guage. He buys "toys" for resale as well as being a collector himself. Literally has container loads of gear, preserved and locked up in his warehouse. He was very excited about these starwars sets for his own private collection. That was enough for me.

Think there may be a difference between "Mayan coins" and "Star wars coins" in terms of their following as collectables. I see them both as little more than junk, but junk that is far more easier to pass on to one buying audience than another buying audience. :)

Play with them?!?!?

That is crazy talk, all my recent figures are still sealed in their original boxes, they are not toys, they are collectables!

They were way more fun when I was a kid and I mistook them for toys and played with them.

I'm waiting for the life sized 24ct Gold Light Saber!!
Group buy~everyone gets to play with it for a fortnight each, every year.

:)
