Stacking PM's from scrap electronics

Eftpos Terminals are starting to become a common item in e-waste, ever since small businesses have been using them just about everywhere now, it's quite common to get a few old ones in an e-waste pick-up.

So whilst they don't have a high scrap value, the technology is so quick to upgrade they have little value on the secondary market so we have another item for gold recovery.. awesome!

Barcode Readers are another excellent source of gold recovery items from circuit boards, first point of call is to check and see if the reader is current and can be sold, otherwise scrap them out for some nice circuit boards and precious metals.

Miniroo - I work with equipment that uses a set of brushes that used to be carbon but are now a silver alloy. Are you aware of this type of scrap and how much silver per gram of alloy it contains?
 
That's a bit too complicated for me, the silver alloy could have any qty of silver in it, would depend on the application and manufacturer.
All I can suggest is just stack it and when you got a couple kg's, get it refined yourself and find out for sure.

Are we going to see you on a current affairs one night when council workers are removing your "hoard" of scrap computer parts with you chasing after them going on about how they can't take your gold?
I can't imagine how much space you are taking up with the amount of parts you have. It would be like stacking silver in .001 purity bars. Do you actually turn any of this into gold/silver etc?
 
Yep that's the plan.
Why would council workers remove my hoard? with the amount of rates I pay per year, they don't need my gold.

When I started scrapping, it was in a toyota hatchback and I was renting a 1 bedroom flat with no money in the bank, I was hungry most times, I considered going on the dole but instead I persisted because no matter how many people laughed it off, I could see the potential in e-waste and the card up my sleeve was very few others could.

A few years down the track and yep, i'm still a scrapper.
except I drive a mercedes van now, have a business, my own uniform, scrap forum, a house/workshop 6 k's from Melb' CBD and I eat steak most nights.

I was a silver stacker initially and when I found this forum I wanted more silver, more then I could buy.
so it was because of this forum and the members at the time who inspired me to go out and find silver, I am where I am.

So what i'm doing in this thread is giving a little back, If I can inspire just one stacker who wants more silver to scrap e-waste,
and he does well, I think that's a good thing, so no matter how subtle or blatant anyone tells me how little they chose to understand it and write it off with any excuse they can find, means very little in the end as talking the talk means nothing when your talking to someone who's walking the walk.

The reason I ask is because it appears you are hoarding computer parts not refining them to precious metals and disposing of the waste. Councils take a dim view of people who accumulate large amounts of "garbage" in residential properties and can end up getting court orders to get rid of it. See it all the time on the news.
Now if you showed me a bar of gold that you had extracted from the ram sticks you showed off before then I would be more impressed. It just appears that your business model doesn't see the transference of the e-waste into a form of value that can be exchanged to a different commoditie eg cash for food

What percentage of your income comes from actually raw scrapping electronics into PM's? as opposed to resale etc.
And I'm with serial on this one, we'd be more impressed if you showed us some actual bars you have gotten refined from the scrap.
It's neat to show an impressive hoard of boards and parts, but people want to know how much PM it actually translates into.
Also, how much does the actual refining cost? Fixed fee? or do they take a cut of the PM?
