If this has been discussed elsewhere please let me know. How long is the acceptable wait for payment after agreeing to a deal to purchase an item?

I would say 2 business days for receipt of funds into your account. That's what it takes for my bank to transfer funds.

If you mean how long to wait before buyer acknowledges that they have actually transferred the money, I would say 24 hours maximum. Beyond that and you should call the deal off.

3 days maximum for payment received (normally 1-2 days) all days term in business day only
paid in 24 hours after bank detail acknowledged

Well done Hem, good to see some of the older members bringing back to mind some of the correct ways of conducting business.
Regards Maggie

Immediately or within 24 hours (and advising seller of this 24 h time frame, as a common courtesy).

As part of the "gentleman's (or ladies') agreement", attach a screenshot of the Electronic Funds Transfer as a record of the transaction.

Everyone goes home happy :)

I believe immediately after agreement on the deal unless previously disclosed (part of the agreement)
I've sometimes paid a couple of days after or paid in separate chunks but always agreed on the payments as part of the deal.

Within a day unless prior agreement has been reached. You either want it or not. If you do then you already have the means to pay for it. Sellers have reasons for selling as well.

screen shot is a bit in the over cautious zone. but still good dealing practice

a simple "payment has been made will appear in your account as .......... " is perfectly fine.

Can i also make a suggestion, one that i haven't done in the past.

Always attach a contact phone number to the transaction. I have been trying to get in touch with a member here (senior - with lots of feedback) and they have not been on SS. Other than confirming payment cleared and saying that the item will be posted the next day, i have not heard from them. Payment was confirmed by the seller on the 26th of last month with no confirmation yet of shipping.
I am still not worried about this transaction because of the person involved and the nature of this community however if the item was sent and has met issues with aus post, that needs to be resolved as well.

Add a phone number. I will be and also requesting one in the future.

Payment should be initiated within 24 hours and received within 48 hours.

GP can we please have a sticky on this subject = SELLING RULES.

Just so there is no argument it would be great to have it all set out in black and white.

People can link an email address to the PM in Silverstackers. That way they don't need to be on SS all the time, but can be notified when a new message comes through. Even if emails are not checked very regularly it is at least another reminder.

I don't think everyone uses this facility but it is impt with any site you join - you can just get yourself a gmail, yahoo etc.... address for those purposes so your name is not recorded. Although, it is not available to others anyway, but hidden behind PMs.

On the other matter, payment same day (24 hrs) depending on when you get confirmation of your purchase. Notfiy seller that it has been done - usually payment is within a few hours rather than 24 but sometimes time differences mean one party is in bed when a message is sent.

Sometimes I send the internet payment receipt number, but screen shot is a bit beyond me! I always note that the bank says 2 days allowance but it usually gets there before then. On the odd occassion internet banking is down for the night or something so, depending on the time frame, I will send a message to that effect and try again in the morning.

Communication is key to all trades.

Payment can be made anytime as long as it has been discussed and agreed to.

The default option should be "as soon as feasibly possible" I can transfer funds over the internet in a matter of moments, the only thing that would stop me would be lack of funds or access to a computer. If I didn't have the funds I shouldn't be bidding and if I am not going to be around for the end of an auction or I am going on holiday then once again, communication is key.
