They rarely talk about gold so was not in the least bit surprised when I saw this scathing article about the alleged end of the rally.

Who were the main advertisers in that issue and around the article?
(A stack of what this magazine does is "cash for comment" and sometimes you can separate true feelings from paid propaganda by noting the advertisers.)

Yep stick to property and blue chip shares and you can't go wrong

<sarcasm smiley>

Magazines like AFR Investor are completely useless
just full of general waffle articles like this one....
I mean what's the point of an article warning about the drop in gold AFTER it's already dropped 30%
Why didn't Jim the genius Reid publish the article when gold was peaking ??

last good finance magazine worth reading was 'Shares' before they killed it off

I keep thinking he's got split personality syndrome. Bubble's burst. People need to deal with it especially the miners since their rapidly rising costs show that low prices are totally unsustainable :P

fund managers dont want you to invest in precious metals, they want you to invest in one of their "managed fund" products where they take between 2-4% of your capital each year regardless of fund performance.

+1
I used to subscribe to 'Shares' and thought it was fantastic.
When they morphed it into 'Smart Investor', I quickly realised there was nothing smart about their articles at all - instead it was 'Mum and Dad' investor personified.
I no longer bother with it.

Actually ROFL'd when I checked and saw this ad next to it... A seminar exploring the 'what if' questions as we head toward the year 2100! Dafuq?!

Rest of the ads arent all that bad, just the usual selling their products and trading platforms. I read it every month as I'm still learning and like reading about 'investment' options other than gold and silver. Although the 'if you don't hold it, you don't own it' mantra has adversely affected my ability to diversify elsewhere :/ Have to change that mindset, ain't done me no favors yet other than allow me to build silver towers and castles.

How to make money out of the share market? Hold seminars/conferences for $1,000 a head about how to make money out of the share market.

I got a new avatar after 4 years on SS.

Don't waste your time reading crap

Best book on investing ever:

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham

If you are inclined towards trading then read

Trade your way to Financial Freedom by Van K Tharp

Fell asleep six times reading it! It's at the bottom of the To Read pile... Seventh time might be a charm? Will look up the Tharp books, have heard of him before.

So what investing magazines, if any, do people here read?

He's quoting IMF global expansion predictions. That in itself is worthy of a big

IMF & World Bank in today's world are completely useless. Born in the Bretton-Woods agreement at the end of World War 2 when currencies were still pegged to gold and governments had a tighter control over things.
